New Info on the ///M6

"The new 5.5-litre V10 that will ship in both the M5 and M6 is still a closely guarded secret, though sources suggest that the new 10-cylinder block will redline @ 9000rpm."

"BMW's evolving SMG gearbox will also make the cut in the M6, while some are whispering that a seven-speed version will be on offer."

Full article here

http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring...s/6_01_bmw.htm

some are even saying 550bhp@9000 rpm !!

no probms...

"and rumour has it that it could well be the most powerful BMW ever..."

I think that statement could be true cuz if you compare the performance stats of the 645 and 545... You will notice that the 645 outguns the 545 to 100 km/h (62 mp/h)

According to the official numbers.. The 645 will hit 100 in 5.5 where the 545 will do it in 5.8. So it should be 5.3. to 60..
If thats the case, then we say that the M6 will have a slight edge on the new M5 too..

If anyone was wondering what their weight comparison was.. Well the 645 comes in at 1690 kgs and the 545 comes in at 1710.

Black,
thanks for the info. Just so you are aware- most of it is old.

Here is what I believe the case with the M6 will be:

the same exact engine as in the M5. This makes life a little easier for BMW. The M6 will perform "better" because it will be lighter (as you indicated) and the suspension will be a little more sport tuned.

as to redline- its 8300, see

Maybe they will tune it higher as time goes on?

I would imagine that BMW will also stick with whatever transmissions it offers for the M5 with the M6. It would be great to have a 7 speed SMG transmission, but I would hope they keep the manual to 6 speeds- 7 is a bit much for shifting- but, hey, if they go to 7, then I say the more the merrier!

I expect the E60 M5 and E62/63 M6s to perform extremely well.

Sorry if that the info was old to u guys.. cuz it was new to me !

I must say that the rpm guage really looks cool. when's the last time you 9 in one

I wouldn't mind a 7 speed SMG gearbox but as you say it will feel weird shifting many times in a manual !

have you had a looksie at the M3's tach? it goes up there also!

as a matter of fact- to really drive the M3- youve got to get it to around 6000 rpms and push it up to its 9000 rpm redline.

dont worry about the info- whats important is that we are excited to see what goodies BMW brings to market!

Thats right, they miss it. Hmm. And no shift lights for SMG either?

Maybe forced controollledso you NEVER can rev over when its cold. Itwould actually be good having it that way.

Hi,
thanks for the info.
This weeks Auto-Motor-und-Sport tells that:
most probably we won´t see a M5 touring

as long as
I have two girls and a fairly new boy

yes there will be lights, or better a ring. This is used for cold motors to inidicate the maximum allowed rpm and for cruise control and also for distronic.

In agree with you guys, the M6 will be the hottest most desireable car in the BMW lineup. Only 20 months to wait.....
