Help with Custom Camera mount installation

Check out this excellent thread for inexpensive camera mount instructions. My problem here is my M5 2003 has a grey cowling covering a black plastic unit that says NOKIA on it. I'm assuming it has something to do with the phone (which I don't have) and/or the stereo. I can't access the bolt from below. Has anyone installed the quick release mount on to their rear deck on a 2003 M5 as the thread shows?
I'm considering hacking off the head of a proper sized bolt and screw one end into the deck and the other into the mount. The mount is a tripod mount purchased at B&H Photo NYC. It's a Borgen Manfreddi (sp). Any other tips on installations appreciated.
