Hi Senecca,

Welcome to the Board

Which year E39 do you have?, the voice control on my 1999 is limited when it comes to Nav instructions, I can only change to "Map" and change the scale.....not sure on later models.

When you press the button, hold it down for a second or so rather than just pressing it, you should hear a beep, then you can speak your instruction such as "Map".

The Car kit should charge the battery, if it's not, maybe the battery is faulty or old?

I can't remember about the display of incoming telephone numbers

Good luck

I can e-mail a PDF (112KB) of the VR manual if you'll PM your e-mail address to me (it's not in your profile).

The PDF file is also posted on the Web somewhere. The file name for the version I downloaded is "Owners Manual Voice Input System Part No 84 11 0 027 942.pdf"

In the meantime, you can press the VR button on the steering wheel and, following the beep, just say "Help" for a review of the major commands for each of the functions. To limit the review to commands for a particular function you can say "Help" followed immediately by "Navigation" or "Phone" or "Notepad."

Yes, the car will trickle charge the phone if you have it plugged into the connection properly. Check the connection. If the OBC displays "BMW Assist Inactive" on start-up, the connection is probably loose.

Yes, incoming calls should be displayed in the OBC above the steering wheel. Check to see if the prior owner updated the car's software by going to the "Settings" screen. In the upper right, you should see 3-1/62 if you have the latest version (assuming your car has the larger MK III screen).

Welcome to the board.

will update with my email ad.

nothing seems to happen at all when i push the voice rec button.

must be faulty - perhaps linked to the phone problem.

OH well - thats what extended warrenty is for.

the car has the bigger screen - but whats is the significance of the software upgrade ??

another related question - on the sat nav screen there are 7 options , 4 on the left (on board computer, television, code etc) 3 on the right (DSP, cant remember what else) but the point is that there seems to be a space for another 'option' - if to make it look good if nothing else - any ideas what should be there(if anything)

Its got, sat nav, dsp, pdc,tv and other toys ive misssed out on ??

Thanks for the reply

cheers
