Supercharged 540i

Just bought my first 5 series here in Australia 540i M Sport with a 5 speed auto which has been powerchiped but am looking for more grunt.
Does anybody have any experience with building thier own supercharger system as the kits available from the US and Europe are too expensive here down under.
Does anyone know of software that would allow reprogramming of the ECU via a laptop ? if so it would be a worthwhile project where I could develop a kit available for export.
I would also like to know what mods can be done to improve braking and suspension.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for that guys, the photos alone were a great help especially if we go it alone without a kit. I asked my insurance company how much extra premiums required for the addition of a supercharger thier reply "doesn't it go hard enough"
But if you do we won't insure it. Anyway it's early days yet & I'm just lovin owning the thing and doing the research. By the way Its MIB's old car and its a credit to him the way he has looked after it.

Thanks Chunky,

Jimmy has a pretty wild Super charged 540i, I'm sure he can give you lots of tips.

How are those wheels now.

Thanks mark

Gday mark and thanks for the reply. Well I certainly am enjoying the car and have only let the wife drive it once so far as she has a history of driving by feel when it comes to shopping centre parking. I haven't had the wheels polished yet as the man in town with the best reputation is on holidays for another 2 weeks.
I am having second thaughts on the supercharger due to the fact that around 25 k is required which would be better spent on a M5.
I have had some direct emails and one from a guy in Sydney fitting a custom supercharger to his M5 with a predicted 340Kw at the wheels...!!!!!!!!!!.
Oh by the way on the 540 did you ever notice the steering get real heavy with a surging through the wheel effect when taking on high speed cornering eg big rounabouts ?. I'm not sure if this is normal or if I should get the local BMW shop to have a look whilst under warranty.

Cheers

Chunky

Hey Chunky,

I'd get that looked at straight away. It never did anything like that before.

Just make sure you aren't holding the wheel at full lock. This applys to all powersteering cars. Once you hit lock, you should back it off just a touch. Otherwise it keeps driving the turn, and then clicks back. That can cause noise and surging, in all powersteering vehicles. The car will actually turn sharper if you back it off just half an inch. The reason is for it to keep turning, it will click back further to keep going forward. So it goes back and forwards if you hold it on full lock. If you weren't on full lock, then get it checked .

I think ESS has a supercharger kit for the 540, which ranges from $6500 to $13000 depending on the boost... you can check them out here:
