When does X5 4.6i get more power ?

Does anyone know when the X5 4.6i will get hp increase. I suspect with hp wars in full swing that BMW will step up to compete with Cayenne's TT.

I did comparison test drives on the X54.6i and Cayenne S this weekend and the X5 wins hands down. The Cayennes steering wheel tiptronic shifting was very nice. Fit and finish on the Cayenne is horrible. It looks very cheap inside and rattled nicely. No competition here for BMW.

About a month ago, my dealer showed me a memo from BMW indicating the 4.6 was going to 4.8 this fall for the 2004 model year in connection with the face lift of the vehicle and the other engine changes.

As SCH said,

With the facelift in November, the 4,6 will be a 4,8 with 370-380 HP.

According to one dealer, the 4-wheel drive system will be a new variable system and the car will get a new dashboard similar to the 7 and the new 5 with to housings.. He said it was not confirmed from BMW, only rumours he had heard. New headlights to..

He had also seen the new X3 and it looked good accept he didn't like the rear side window of the trunk which was small and weird. It also had a straight tail, compared to the X5.

there is no way they are going to redo the interior that radically right now. the brand new x5 model is due out in 2005 some time. this is a face lift.

MEnthusiast,

My thought also, it sounds like a too major change for a facelift.. And it was not confirmed from BMW... Dealers have been wrong before..

Only two years for the X5 with the facelift? Isn't the new X5 coming out in 2006 as a 2007 MY? BMW have presented a new model 3 years after the facelift in recent years. The E38 7 got a facelift for MY99, E39 5 facelift for MY01... That would be my guees that we see a new X5 as a MY07..

More power on X5 4,6iS

It looks that there is a problem with power transmission and none of the recognized tuners is going to supercharge that model. Please find a reply received from one of them:
"thank you for your visit to the breyton website. we regret to inform that we don't offer performance upgrade for the X 5 4.6 (in our numerous tests we had to recognize that the gear box is not strong enough for supercharging).

best regards
bd breyton design GmbH
Nicole Spangenberg

EES doesn't have it either. Only Hartge offers M5 engine but as said already it costs.

Regards,

Regarding the reply of Supercharging the 4.6is, actually ESS has a kit out in R&D right now and that is my car. It's a 2002 4.6is. ESS installed November 2002 and I have put about 12,000 miles on it since then. NO ISSUES! The transmission has held up fine and I have driven the X hard. ESS will qualify the 4.6is kit as production after monitoring my install for a few more thousand miles. Dinan also has a SC kit in development for the 4.6is. It is Steve Dinan's personal X5 4.6is which he just acquired a few months ago. Expect their kit in a few months. See my ESS thread in this forum for a review on the 4.6is SC kit.
