Police Fishtail maneuver on M5

General wondering:
Have you guys ever watch those police videos like "COPS" or "Most Dangerous Police Video"? There is a lot of time when the police in their cruiser rams the back end of a car and cause the car to lose traction and spin out of control or what the police called "Fishtail maneuver".
I was wondering is that maneuver gonna work on our M5 equipped with DCS?

The DCS can make it harder but not impossible.
The cop car can apply as much force as it likes to the rear of the car, and there is nothing the DCS can do about it.

I bet it would feel very different to a police officer performing the manuever on a traction control equipped car though.

I think the DSC will not rescue us from fishtailing if we were bumped like that. It uses throttle control and brake applications to correct the yaw and tire slip. If there were an outside force (police car) acting upon it (M5), it would pretty much render the DSC useless.

So to sum up, if you are on COPS, using DSC to decieve the cops will not work!

Ever notice the people who are on the show are always toothless or pantless? And it's always 'a cousin's car.'

It's PIT. Pursuit Intervention Technique.

And jmott's right. If he wants to end the pursuit, he will. With or without DSC.

Seriously ... if I was running from the cops because of speeding, that would be just stupid. A quarter pannel and risk of a flip-over will cost you a HECK lot more than the ticket itself.

Then again, if the M5 I was driving was jacked, then I would probably make it as hard as it could for the cop to pull this move. I always wonder though ... why not just swerve away from the cop? What about just braking? Or, in case of M5, out accelerating?

:cheer:

There's only one way to find out....who's the most suggestive and crazy member on the board?

Guys, an M5 will have no problems with the cops. Well, until they really pull out the stops and get the helicopter out and get the highway closed. Then its an all out race to the border.

Check out this E30 M3 and Camaro "chase:"

Not impressed by the police work in this one.

That was comical. The show announcer keeps talking about the kid's lack of driving experience. What does that say about the cops he's clearly outdriving. LOL

The scariest thing to me was how inept that cop was... spinning himself off the road and into the path of another officer because of a shoulder shrug by the BMW driver. I'd hate to work with that guy!
