Post B+B's Installed

Just returned from the dealer with my new subs...I mean exhausts. They are FANTASTIC!!! There is a bit of resonance between 1200-1500 rpm, but I like it! Surprisingly quiet on the highway, just a low murmur letting you know the nuclear option is available if you need it. I think the idle is awesome. At a stoplight, the car next to me commented that the beast sounded like it would devour her car if she didn't play nice.

I'm jealous, DrKev! I was lined up to do the group buy, but had to bail at the last minute (just married this year and still figuring out how to cater to the Beast while not completely depleting the 'account' with the missus). I WILL get one, it's just a matter of when.

I had a B&B on my E39 540/6 and had people FOLLOW me to find out "whatcha got in that thing?" BTW, the guys at the security gate for my neighborhood said it sounded better than any other vehicle they'd heard--and it was merely the "super-smooth 4.4L" of the 540i. I can only imagine how awesome it sounds on the Beast. Congrats!

I made the same decison on my 97 Corvette and never regretted it. The B&Bs sound wonderful. Thinks: maybe I should do it to my M5 when it gets here.

DrKev,

Well, well, so you are now a certified road warrior with the "rumble" to go with it. I have my B&B's in a box in my office waiting for their new home to get here, ie new M5. Do you notice any feedback at 2000rpms and above steady state?

I can't wait!

Thanks for the info,

Mark

I was following jlvink during the last Napa M5 meet with his B&Bs installed. It was sure a sweet sound to follow. It helped me a lot since I was able to hear when he was getting on it instead of watching. I knew when I heard his exhaust rise it was time to put my right foot down!

If I ever get any new exhaust, it will be B&B. For some reason the wife just doesn't see the reason for it

I'm not sure what to do? My exhaust system arrived yesterday I was very excited!! But after taking them out of the box I noticed that A) there are scratches where the tips were rolled (like the machine that rolls the ends left marks) and B)the right outside tip was dented slightly proubably during shipping . I could try to lightly pound it out and it would be fine and the sratches I could maybe polish out but still it's not perfect! What would you guys do?

DrMike,

I would give them a call and demand that they pay for shipping them back. Have them send you a new set. My B&B's were flawless at arrival and you shouldn't have to put up with anything less than perfect.

Mine arrived with one small inperfection. The sleeve that fits over the exsisting pipe was slightly dented in. I believe the shop will be able to bend it out and slide it on. It is not something that will be showing from the rear of the car. I think this was shipping damage. It sounds like B&B needs better packaging.

I can't wait to have a car to put them on.

Mark

Hmmm...I took mine out of the shipping box over the weekend and noticed the exact same damage: "The sleeve that fits over the exsisting pipe was slightly dented in." This was only on one of the pipes. Otherwise, with the exception of some black marks (easily removed), they were OK.

The box they were shipped in seems very flimsy for the amount of weight. I bet it's the same box they use for the single muffler shipments. I'm not sending them back for replacement since the pipe end can be easily bent back out. However, I think it's worth an email to them to suggest they consider some better packaging.

After 3 weeks I REMOVED THE B&B MUFFLERS!!
I finally got arount to do some performance testing of my beast with the B&B Triflow mufflers using the GTECH performance meter. The HP readings were never higher than with the stock mufflers. I got many 312-314 HP readings with the stock mufflers and not a single reading of over 300 with the B&B mufflers.

I was always unhappy (hated) the low RPM sound of of the B&B mufflers. This, combined with essentially no increase in performance and loss of stealth made me decide to go back to the stock exhaust. Out went the B&B mufflers this weekend. Lost about $900 in this experiment, but I am happy again with my beast.

Note: This message has been posted elsewhere in this board. Also these mufflers were not from the group buy.
