Navigational Unit!

Hey guys, I have a 2000 M5, and was wondering if I could upgrade the whole entertainment part(like the radio controls, screen and all) to the 2001+ edition M5 screen, which is larger and better looking? Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks
Afshin

You have to also update the Nav computer to MKIII as the earlier ones will not support the larger screen. If you have the Nav-TV video module, you will also have to update this. The harnesses are plug and play.

The total cost for the upgrade is about $2-2.4K and it's on my list.

Wow, didn't think anybody responded, thanks a lot. That sounds like an expensive upgrade. Do you know if I would just take it to the dealership, or where would I purchase those parts from? And is it like a plug and play ordeal, or a huge job? THanks a lot in advance.

I aheva MK III Nav computer for sale that I took out of my 2001 540i. It comes preloaded with version 20.1 of the operating system which is the latest. It's on Ebay right now and going for less than what a remanufactured one from the dealer would go for.

e-mail me at: paciullo@optonline.net if interested.

You might want to check to see which Nav unit you have. About Sept 2000, BMW started putting in the MK III units to be used with the older square screens. If you have a 09/00 build or later, you may already have the MK III unit and with an OS update, you'll get the split screen.

You should be able to plug the new wider format screen right in.

Folks going from MK I to MK III is a mess... I have a MK III nav unit running on my 1997 E39 with the older square screen.

The TV-Nav unit for MK II and MK III is the same unit. the Tuner for the MK I does not work with MKII/III.

The wider screen is about a Grand from Pacific or Crevier, you might be able to unload your old screen via ebay for few hundred.

Good Luck,
M

Re: Navigational Unit!

You may also want to check out this link. I just found it this morning while searching the site. http://www.bmwnav.com/index1.htm It is a good price compared to the dealers.

Actually you CAN run this with the MKII computer, but you will not get the splitscreen functionality. MKII works fine with the larger 16:9 display
