          Your favorite feature?

Most of us bought M5's for the performance. But I find a couple of features I never thought twice about are really wonderful.

The first is the optional sun shades. I have black interior, but I leave the side ones up, raise the back one when I park and pop the sunroof and the car stays at a reasonable temperature even parked in direct sunlight. I like this feature.

But I think my very favorite is raising the side mirrors. Our garage is a side-by-side affair with separate doors - so there isn't a lot of clearance by the posts on the way in, nor is there a lot of clearance when you walk by or between the cars. Rasing the mirrors increases this clearance dramatically. But the coolest part is that it reminds me of airplanes that fold their wings up to make room on aircraft carriers. And no other car I know of does this. I predict they will. A great show-off feature.

          What's your favoriate "sleeper feature?"

I too agree, that apart from the car's inherent performance, the folding mirrors is a hit! My wife, a "car is a car" type person, didn't understand what all the fuss was about concerning the M5. As far as she was concerned, we were getting another 5-series...that is until she witnessed the mirrors retracting. Now she's ALL about the M5! Nevermind that the M5 is the fastest, currently produced, sedan BMW has made...as long as those mirrors fold up she's happy!

I wish the MB of North America had brought in that feature from the Eureopean E55 too! My wife is stil not convinced what's so great about the E55 =)

You guys might think I'm nuts..but my favorite feature is the alcantara headliner. I stroke it everytime I take a long drive. Weird huh? It's like how I would stroke my cat.

I never would have ordered heated seats. But after using them a few times over the past 6 months, I've taken back every sarcastic thing I ever said about them in the past.

          Greg,

No flame here...but about the folding mirror(just for your info), 1992+ S-Class(W140, and W220) already has power folding side mirrors. And there are even more cars available with power folding side mirrors in Asia and Europe.

          1992-1994 S-Class(W140)also has power centre(the one inside the car)mirror...

Anyways...you M5 owners are very lucky. You have a very unique car that will truely be a Legend in BMW's history.

          Happy Motoring....

          akry,
the power folding mirrors for the M5 are distinctly different that other folding mirrors in that they swivle and turn upwards. I must say it's indeed a unique feature to the M5.. =)

I have given numerous friends and co-workers a ride in my M5, and of course they're all impressed by the heated, infinitely adjustable seats, the SPEED (is that a feature?), and GPS Nav system integrated with the stereo/DSP and OBC. But only after they've had their ride, THEN I flip up the mirrors, and they're "WOWed". The mirrors are just "over the top" and for most people, it's the first time they'd ever seen a car do that. I also like that the passenger side mirror angles down when you put it in reverse. I also like the aux ventillation timer. Nothing like having fresh air in the car.

My favorite feature: Nope, not those mirrors. I lived in Japan for a while and every car there has them. I imported a 5.0GT Mustang convertible and they charged me a fortune to convert it for Japan including adding those mirrors.

I like to show people the little sticker in the trunk that shows you how to stack 3 golf bags ... BMW thinks of everything!

Actually, I think the nicest feature on this car is the rims.. I've never seen nicer looking stock rims before.... now only if BMW would make 19" ones of the same style...

A question about the folding mirrors. I know they are heated but does that apply for the who mirror? This question would be for people in colder climates that might have ice build up that could break the mirrors when folding.
