Kill after Kill after Kill after Kill.....

A friend of mine finally persuaded me to show up at the local street races. I didn't plan on racing, I mainly wanted to see the 996TT and 550M that had been showing up the last couple weeks. Didn't take long for my will power to wear thin...

The first and most memorable race was against an LS1 T/A with basic bolt-ons. Prior to this race my friend thought it would be funny to load up my beast with 3 passengers and dust a few rice rockets. When we lined up at the start, a T/A pulled up instead. Before I could say "hey, this isn't fair" the guys in the car started talking trash for me, and before I knew it I was about to race this LS1 with a car full of people. I lauched at 1000rpm and shut it down partway through 4th gear, he was toast. The guys start shouting and laughing, and when I got back to the start everyone (about 100 cars tonight) was yelling and cheering. The guys I was with were busy high fiving and so forth.

After everthing calmed down the same 3 guys hopped back in and we lined up at thestart for some more action. Next car to eat M5 dust was a modded AWD Eclipse...was supposed to be fast. I put so much damn distance on him by the end of 2nd gear that he let off and gave up...I hate that, as if he saved any face by not giving it a full run. With AWD he couldn't complain about a bad launch, oh well. That was my last dead-stop drag race.

The next series of kills (I seriously lost count) were against C5 and C4 vettes with various bolt-on mods at highway speeds. By the way, I had 2 passengers for the rest of the night/morning. Guys, I stomped some serious ***...and these are all seasoned street racers, they know what they're doing. Punch after punch, NOBODY could hold off the beast.

The most memorable highway punch was when a millennium yellow C5 gunned it from 6 cars ahead of me. At that moment I had just shifted into 3rd gear and was going a bit less than 70MPH. By the time my speedo showed 160, I had him by two full cars.

I must say that all those vette guys were great sports, and every time we made a pitstop I kept hearing them saying "...that's the fastest damn 4-door..." as they stepped out of their cars. None were bitter and all were in utter amazement of what they repeatedly witnessed. A great group of guys.

I think these events might have turned my Lemans blue beast into a street race legend overnight.

Oh, almost forgot to tell you all about my one and only "loss". One of the C4's I had previously ran with got fed up with the ///M dominance and decided it needed to be tamed. He released 1/3 of his NOS bottle (150-shot)leaving me and everyone else in our caravan hopelessly behind and choking on laughing gas vapors. That was sick. It made me feel like I was driving a 4 cylinder.

Incidentally, I never saw the Turbo or the 550...they left before I arrived (I got there late due to an emergency car wash).

Next time I'll try to prove the beast against a host Vipers. Wish me luck! (I'll need LOTS of it)

*Note to Corvette Forum members* Before you start calling this BS, I urge you to chat with your Dallas board members, some were present and will verify.

KnightRider,
I've been drag racing since I had a driver's license. However the guys I were racing were seasoned as well...

What an awesome kill...after kill......after killl...You da man RaMsEs!!!!!.

So are you saying my buddy with the 2001 C-5 Automatic Convert w/350 hp (not sure of rear gear) should be no problem?. He is still wanting to race for steak dinners, my guidelines.

What's your prediction off the line up to 80 or 100 mph._____________________???.

Or what do you predict would happen from a rolling start say 5 or 10 mph up to 80 or 100____________________________.???

Thanks Dick, it was certainly exciting to see the beast hold its own against one of America's finest.

Assuming you drive the same as I, you should have no problem showing him your tail lights. It's a pretty close race up to 60, and then the vette pulls maybe a door length or two from 65-90 (mostly during early 3rd gear). When you get into 4th it's the begining of the end because you are going to pull hard and 5th is just icing on the cake(good for maybe another car length).

I had a highway cruise with some more vettes tonight. No dead stop drag races, mostly 20+MPH punches. Three C5's (one with standard bolt-ons, one conv., one with 19"/20" HRE 3piece wheels and NOS)and four C4's (one with Callaway twin turbos, one with NOS, one Grand Sport, and one ZR-1).

Last night's 160MPH / 8 car length C5 walk-away was no fluke...almost duplicated it tonight. I pulled two cars ahead on the 2001 conv. 6-speed by the top of 5th gear (160MPH) from being three cars behind him before deciding to join his punch. No I didn't pull on the C5 as hard this time, but I also had an extra 460 pounds of passengers (only 330 extra pounds last night) and a full tank of gas. He had no passengers. I walked him fair and square with a 1000 pound weight disadvantage. This car is a monster.

*CorvettForum guys* Snake Skinner, Ultra Slow, and (I forgot his nick, AD something or another) were there.

Hi Shqawn,

Fishy Post Police...update your website. It says you still own a Maxima. Also, read my response on Corvetteforum. I am truly intrigued how you can make up 2 car lengths after the C5 gets the jump and then put 8 on him in a stock M5. I note you said these were modified C5s. So that means, by your description you are dog stomping C5 with about 320+ to the rearwheels? Cars with pretty good aero numbers and WAAAAAAY lighter. The slower the start, the more pronounced the weight advantage is. SO a 20 punch and then put 8 on him? I am truly a doubting Thomas from the description of your race.

Hey NOSty,

If Fishy Post Police/RaMsEs is who I think he is -- a friend that I haven't seen in a while -- then I doubt that he's bs'ing. I've known him to be unlike the "typical" Supra owner, and you know what I mean when I say that.

Furthermore, you've seen me lurk and post on Corvette Forum long enough that I'm not the Supra posting type myself.

Anyway, when we look at dyno numbers and power-to-weight ratios, we fail to look at one other thing: gear ratios. Correct me if I'm wrong, but gear ratios, in layman's terms, act like a multiplier. The dyno numbers that you and/or I put down on a Dynotech Chassis dyno should be in a gear where there's a 1:1 ratio. It may be different on other cars, but for the 300ZX it's 4th gear. So if I put down 350rwhp/390rwtq in 4th gear where there's a 1:1 gear ratio, in theory, my rwhp/rwtq should increase in lower gears.

Hope this explanation may provide some insight on Shawn's "miraculous" kills.

Cheers!

Michael.

BUT his history on our forum, makes me a disbeliever. My A4 C5 is a monster at 20 MPH and has been since day 1. My contention is still 1) he is not stock or 2) the race really didn't happen the way *he* thouht it did. When I see one run at the track, that *may* change my mind.

Go to his website and look at his picture and tell me if that's who you know.

But does that really make a big difference? If he only posted kills here, they would still eventually end up on Corvette Forum one way or another because his kills sounded "fishy."

Yeah? And so is my 300ZX.

I rode in my CEO's M5 and it's definitely fast. But with the rwhp/rwtq I'm putting down, I should be able to eat it alive. However, I really can't be too sure unless I run w/ him. I mean, my Z feels furiously fast when the twin turbo slams you against the seat. But on the same token, the power on the M5 is smooth that you hardly notice how fast you're going until you look at the speedo.

He isn't stock. Look at his sig. He has a B&B Tri-Flo exhaust.

But aside from that, what does a C5 w/ the mods he listed normally put to the ground? What does an M5 w/ a B&B Tri-Flo exhaust put to the ground? Would it be a safe assumption that at high speeds, weight is less of an issue?

Maybe the C5's he raced had traction control on. Who knows...?

As a matter of fact, that is the Shawn I know. He looks a wee bit different than I last saw him though.

And he may look a wee bit young (1 year younger than me) to be driving a brand new M5, but, trust me, he's got the funds and, AFAIK, none of it is daddy's money. I respect the guy.

Cheers!

Michael.

A CorvetteForum "senior" member chimed in:

Also, bring some cash to back up your foolish ideas that your stock or small modded C5 will win, I would like to win your money from ya to take our little group for dinner afterwords!!!!

Point being, this car is fast. All that it has is a B&B catback exhaust. I guess those who doubt this car know very little about the engineering that goes on in the R&D of the M5, there is a LOT more than just four doors and a V8 there......Think about IT!!!!

8388, UltraSlow, myself, and a few other forum members where there too, sorry C5 guys.....watch out for those pesky grocery getters with the M5 plate out back.....

NOSty,
See were all this BS flag raising got ya? My history on your forum? SURPRISE! I was telling the truth the whole time. Actually it's my history according to YOU that is fishy.

Michael-Dallas,
Thanks for backing me on this. Email me at shawn@bmwregistry.com, maybe we can meet up some time. I haven't seen ya in a couple years.
