What a video!

Thanks!

0-200 km/h in the E55 in 14,6 s! That is fast

When they drove the E55 head to head with the M5 and the RS6 it seemed like the M5 was clearly ahead of the RS6, while the E55 lead the pack.

That was fun to watch!

I was especially surprised by the fact that in this video the M5 and the E55 both outaccelerates the RS6. Ironically the RS6 outbrakes both of the other two. With those 8 piston calipers that's hardly a surprise!

A great find, Karman! Thanks for sharing it with us!

Translation (summary):

Acceleration: M5 better than RS6, AMG winner overall
Slalom: M5 vs RS6 even, E55 worser
Brakes: RS6 Best (37m), AMG 2 (38m), M5 Last (39m).

Interiour: Excellent chairs in the E55 AMG, nice for lateral forces and also extremely comofrtable on longer rides. RS6: Not as exclusive, more slippery A joy to change gears in the M5. Comfortable on longer journeys

AMG is crowned to the best high speed limousine, but the M6 is the best on the track

Thanks Gustav.

Hopefully Black M5's S/Ced beast will prove to us that the E39 M5 can still beat these newer models.

Superb video! Thanks. Wish I could save it. Anyone know of a way to save this video?

I was surprised that both the E55 and the M5 pulled away from the RS6 in acceleration. What happened to the launch advantage of AWD?

I can't believe MB is still putting four-spoke steering wheels in their AMG cars. It's no different from the regular E-class cars.
Nice to see it lose control in the slalom. So much for its "sports suspension." Also, did anyone notice how much more the driver had to turn the Merc's steering wheel from side to side in order to navigate the slalom? In contrast, the RS6 was a piece of cake with less rotation needed.

Lastly, the interior and exterior. The M5 still looks superb exteriorwise compared to the other two. And in interior style and ergonomics, the E39M5 blows the other two away. From its beautiful dashboard and meaty steering to its gorgeous bruyere-encrusted 6-speed manual, it does not get any better. It's a pity all this simplicity and cockpit elegance will be flushed down the drain with the E60.

The E39 is far from dated, either in looks or in performance. It continues to get better with age and I love it all the more. It's so nice to see it in all its splendor through that road-course, defending its honor against the new-comers. All you E39 M5 owners (who are good drivers) have nothing to worry about when encountering the blown E55 and the RS6 on a twisty road or on the highway. Do a beautiful rev-matched double-clutch and show them what M-Power is all about.

Long live the E39M5 and down with its enemies!!!!!

I've been looking for a way to save real audio videos too...if anyone can chime in here, that'd be GREAT!

Mav, have you noticed that the driver did not have to turn the steering wheel as much in the M5. What surprised me was how composed the RS6 looked from outside during the slalom course.

The M5 seems to be able to handle high speed quick transitions quite well judging from the way it tackled the tracking portion of the course.

Atomic, you must be thinking of the RS6. They did not show the interior of the M5 during the slalom. And yes, the RS6 and M5 looked dead even during the slalom in terms of body motion. I cannot believe the E55 is so sloppy in the slalom, both in steering and in handling. Is this what they call an AMG car? Sheesh. Shame on AMG. The poor driver was exhausted after twirling the E55 wheel 360 degrees left to right, 360 degrees right to left, and then back again and again. And after all his twirling, the car loses all composure.

Yes, indeed, Atomic. During the tracking portion of the course, the M5 is a muscular animal, moving gracefully from corner to corner as the driver calmly flicks through the gears. Ha! Who needs stinkin' SMG?

The Audi looks very good. But then again, with AWD, it better handle well. Good brakes, good handling, lousy acceleration off the line. And that cursed slushbox. The people in Ingolstadt who approved the slushbox into the RS6 and those in Munich who want all future ///M-cars to be SMG-only need to be lined up and publicly flogged. And don't even get me started on the brainiacs that were in charge of tuning the steering and suspension on the new E55. Is that what AMG calls a "newly-designed rack-and-pinion steering?"
Honestly, what are these Germans smoking? And who is supplying them with the joints? Seems like a conspiracy to ruin German sport-sedans.

And is it true that the GT2 comes with cupholders and cruise-control? Ay, ay, ay!

Does anyone know how to watch a realmedia video with another player? Last time I installed realplayer it completely took over my computer and I had to format the harddrive.

Tom, I don't think the forum isn't letting me private message you. Could you send me the file and maybe I could convert it to avi or something and I could then host it for everyone?

Tom, please send it to RyE. RyE, if you can make a file that everyone can share and download, we'd be very grateful.
