I'm sure we all agree the cupholders are not up to BMW standards, especially compared to the pop up ones in the new E class. What bugs me most has been their inability to hold anything other than the smallest of bottles.

Finally I figured out how to keep something a little larger from sliding all over the cabin at every corner...

(1) Place the drink bottle, can etc. in the middle of the cupholder tray

(2) Open both cupholders about halfway so they clamp onto either side of the drink and you're all set.

interesting solution, I got very used to placing the large bottle of water either on the seats or on the floor which means I almost never get to take a zip while driving. I'll remember that for next time I drive the family 5er, thanks!
