No Run-In 1200Miles Service - The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com)

Hey Folks,

Our X5 has now got 1400miles on the clock...and we've run it in as carefully as we can...and to our surprise, when hitting 1200miles(run in time) it doesn't need a Run In service or check

Is BMW very confident this car is reliable and doesn't need these checks? or what?.....

Ours is the 3.0litre petrol version...Are all X5's missing this check once run in?

I seem to remember that the 1200 mile check became unnecessary when BMW began paying for scheduled sevice. I paid for an oil change at 1,500 miles. I also pay for oil services that are on my schedule and let BMW pay for the "scheculed" ones. I have always changing my oil at least twice as often as BMW recommends. My 1988 iX has 200,000 miles on it and my 91 M5 has 155,000 miles on it. Oil is cheaper than engines unless you are going to get rid of the vehicle (as BMW hopes) in several years.
