need help on X pipe
after reading Vigilant's review on X pipe, I have decided to go for it. When i called my Dinan dealer today ordering high flow meters, they told me they could not put X pipe on for me. They told me there were several m5 with Dinan stuffs having problem (like check engine light will come on) when X pipes are installed, especially with those dinan m5 with header. Is it true?

the X-pipe isn't a Dinan part, so BMW or Dinan wouldn't recommend putting it on... However, it is true that some people have been getting the SES light after installing the x-pipe, but it doesn't really affect peformance with the light on...

I get it every now and then. Apparently the increased flow screws up the oxygen sensors. Which will cause an SES light. Not a big deal to fix, and it's warrantied if your dealer is cool.

When you install the xpipe
Ok,
I dont konw how others have installed the xpipe but the shop that i took my bb's to get put on unhooked the battery to let the car stop thinking for a while. They did the same thing when they put the xpipe on....no lights dealing with the xpipe. I did get one that was for the stupid gas cap again...it has since gone off. Im taking the car tomorrow to get a new gas cap (one that stays put) and some other stuff.
If your going to do it...unhook the battery!

Jason...i mean family sedan, ah wait borringfamilysedan
Just got your Pm from DTMpower...good luck with the airflow mtrs and the xpipe. I hear that the combo is not on the quiet side...but not much could be louder than the bb's with the xpipe.
Man i wish my computer at home had'nt died...i would post video and i cant do it here at work because they are a bunch of computer nazis

actually, with the MAFS and the stage 3 software, the SES light came up more frequently... The Dinan guy at my dealer keeps on saying how it's running richer with the stage 3, plus with the increased exhaust flow from the x-pipe, the cats aren't buring off the gases fast enough...
other than that, it's only a tad bit louder now than before without the MAFS..

My SES light has never gone on because of the x-pipe. I have had it on my car for almost 20,000 miles. I have the OEM mufflers. I do not know why you would disconnect the battery to install the x-pipe. They have notheing to do with one another.

I'm not convinced that the two are entirely unrelated. It seems to me that whenever a variable related to altering intake or exhaust flow, the DME has a chance of getting confused and emitting a SES warning. Disconnecting the battery forces the DME to 'reboot' itself. It's possible that our reactions are just superstitious behavior, but I doubt it.
It's fair to say that there is a higher SES incident rate for those of us with SuperSprint x-pipes (the vast majority also with non-OEM exhausts), than for those without. You just may be an exception to that observation.
Of course, my own SES light illuminates for no reason whatsoever. It has lighted up TWICE as I drove to a racetrack for a driving weekend; perhaps it knew what was in store! It's done it when it didn't like the gas I fed it, or thought I gave rides to too many ugly chicks! The one consistent outcome I've experienced is that if I wait long enough, it goes away on it's own.
My .02. YMMV.

I stand corrected. Perhaps taking disconnecting the battery can help. Perhaps my combination of OEM mufflers and x-pipe is a more likeable fit to the on board computers.
