The ULTIMATE M5 sleeper...

has anyone thought about converting the exterior looks of their M5 to a basic 540?

change the following:

-front spoiler/bumper
-color matched trim
-door mirrors (not rearview)
-M wheels --->540
-exhaust and bumper (two pipes aimed down, behind bumper)
-M5 badge ---> 540

mind you, the interior would not change- and you will have the same M5 performance.

hmm.. get back at all those 540 guys with M5 badges

oh, and smoking the crap out off unsuspecting people @ stoplights.

I don't think you'll get any takers here.

heh, Dolan has a point. The M5 looks WAY better than the 540i. Debadging the M5 is one thing, but changeing the front bumper and the rear bumper is just going too far. Its like trying to serve black forest cake without the icing...just doesn't work

It is becoming more and more popular for people to either make the badging on the back into 'funny' names or to use the lettering and numerics of a car lower down the range being placed onto their cars to become more deseptive, to capture unexspecting ricers into their webs.

Maybe I should use my DINAN letters to spell out DANNI.

I don't know, why would you want to disguise such beauty? It's like telling a supermodel to put on a fat custome for the rest of her life? I'd say that the most I would do is remove the badge in the back but no more than that.

My 2 cents.

speaking of fake BMW's, i was driving along the other day, i was at a red stop light and this awsome looking 7 pulls up beside me (the old model, i can't remember what it was called ) Anyway, he had 18" rims i think, the car was black, a bit of tint on the rear windows...the whole package looked SO GOOD. i was looking for him to look over so i could give him the thumbs up but then the light turned green, and on the left side of his trunk he had the ///M badge!!! who does he think he is trying to kid?

for those of you saying that the M5 looks better than the 540...

there are people out there who enjoy the toned down look of the 540.. Quad exhaust might be a little too much, along with the aggressive front spoiler.

i personally take the M5 over the 540 looks wise, because it's definetely "cooler" in my eyes...

guaranteed, if BMW sells an M5 in an additional body style (for example the basic 5 series look) - both the M5 and "540-look" would be successful...

...

and about the 16"... you'd have to get 18" BMW wheels that were not M wheels. if they make them.

Kinda OT:
A guy here has a Dinan stage FIVE (read: supercharged) 540i stationwagon. To add insult to injury, its badged a 528i on the back Trust me, it is one fassttt wagon It beat a 540i sedan Dinan stage 4 w/ automatic trans at the drag strip.

Malibu, the reason why the M5 doesn't come with a spare tire is because the floor of the trunk is higher than that of the 540i due to the fitting of the quad exhausts. It's probably not worth it to invest a lot of labor costs to make it look like a regular 5-series. Also, I don't think it's not too logical to do it since there are so many 5-series around. The understated design features on the M5 make it stand apart from other 5ers yet retain its wolf in sheep's clothing image.
