Traffic Pro navigation?

Do any of you have this navigation system installed? I heard that it costs a merely 2500 dollars compare to the graphical navigation such as Alpine and the stock PCM.

Traffic Pro Installed

I installed the TrafficPro myself, and really like the unit. At the same time, I put in a Motorola V60 phone integrated with the TrafficPro. I would highly recommend both.

Kevin,
I'm seriously thinking of installing the Traffic Pro also.

Did you buy the Porsche branded unit, or the Becker?, (I know they're the same, just that the first says Porsche on the front).

Also, where does it recommend the antenna be installed? Is it somewhere noticeable, or can it be 'hidden' from view?

Where did you purchase and are there any deals out on this unit yet?

Thanks for any tips.

Traffic Pro Install

I got mine at Suncoast Porsche. Call Phil. Also Gert (www.carnewal.com) sells them, and maybe less expensive. The antenna is hidden in the center of the dash under the cover around the blinking alarm light.

I just bought the BMW Traffic Pro to install in the B8 Convertible (E36).
With this unit I got the European CD (of course) version 6.0. Can anyone tell me where to get the USA CD for the Traffic Pro? Or alternatively someone might be interested in a swap?

As I understand the software is identical for all Traffic Pro units, no matter whether they say BMW, Becker, JVC or something else on the front plate.

As a sidenote Becker is now manufacturing a Traffic Pro unit for Harman/Kardon: www.hktrafficpro.com

Maybe this software will fit for my BMW traffic Pro?

Actually, Becker is now owned by Harman International Group, which of course makes Harman/Kardon products. Therefore, the HK model is simply an OEM equivalent of the Porsche and BMW branded model for the USA market, like Becker is in Europe.

Software should work in your unit, since they both use 8mb dynamic ram and cd-rom.

You've gotta wonder why BMW's Nav needs 6 discs for the whole U.S. while TrafficPro only needs 2. As usual, BMW is gouging its customers again.

I wonder how much they are asking for the Porsche branded unit. The HK model is only $1500.

Seems like a good fit for my GT3. Nav functionality without adding weight!

I had the TrafficPro and then sold it. It was ok, missing a lot of cities and a lot of errors with the POIs.

I bought if for $1,350.00 including the GPS antenna, howver the price has gone up since then. The HK branded unit is identical.

Dan, stunning car indeed, those gemballa wheels are beautiful.

YC, the four slots are for holding cassett tapes.

Harman International (who owns the Harman/Kardon brand) bought Becker in 1995. I should know since I held a position with them back then
The TrafficPro is a Becker design, and all the derivatives (Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, BMW, Ford, Harman/Kardon, Sony, JVC etc.) are all variations over the Becker TrafficPro. Some of them have slightly different hardware than the Becker unit, and I have heard of a few cases of software non compatibility between brands. Not too surprising.

I installed the BMW TrafficPro in the B8 Convertible and it works very well. Here in Europe we have all of Europe on one (1) CDROM (version 5.0) which is very nice. I can recommend this unit. And no, I have nothing to do with Becker these days
