BMW523 15th May 2002, 20:51 Hello guys!
I just wanted to share this new picture with you!
http://www.auto.t-online.de/AU/DE/de/contentrepositories/DE_de_News_carReportRepositoryXML/images/Bild1/BMW5er_Retouche_Montage_148.1021473307651.2.jpg
IMHO it looks REALLY good, very aggressive and sportive! Just think about how it will look like with the ///M package, white turn indicators and the quad exhaust!
The only weak point is the taillights! But maybe they will change them before the release the final car!
Ciao
Stefan
Hutzal 15th May 2002, 23:37 i tihnk that the front is alright, i hate how the signal lights are on top, that looks so stupid....and the rear end is pretty much a copy cat of the 7 series...but its better than some of the pics that have been released.
Tks bmw523!
finally a good picture of the near production E60, the front looks ok but the rear tail light look so retarded also the trunk look too short almost like the 318Ti  hope there will be some pics of the interior soon.
Micko 16th May 2002, 08:39 Any similarities with this picture http://www.bmwnation.com/images/gallery/7/e65e66/e65_7_21_s.jpg and with that front picture..
Not bad...not bad at all..i could get used to that..thank you very much for posting!
all the best

But the lady has been deleted:hihi:

PhilSeastrand 16th May 2002, 16:59 Notice that there is no line for the trunk lid. Depending upon where that ends up could really change the look. This is what I don't like about the 7 series.
Mojo 1 16th May 2002, 18:40 Actually, from the shadow lines, it looks as if the lady was added..
Hutzal 16th May 2002, 20:59 if you look closer, the 2 cars are different, look at the headlights, and also the grills are different shapes, do i detect some photoshop work here? hmmm

and compare that to this one.

But she still has the seat-belt on:D
One word brutal. I hate those eyebrow lights. The back is suspect at best. I hate the fact that we even have to talk about this stuff. Do e-class drivers have this problem? s-class? Of coarse not because MB wouldn't be stupid enough to ruin all their cars with a halfwit named bangle.grrrrrrr grrrrrrr
lebouf 17th May 2002, 10:57 And notice that the car in the second picture (sideways-view) even has red calipers, not to mention the absolutely blurred out back end :D

Couldn't agree more with you, LSM. At least, as a result of this half-wit, all of us are NOT taking the beautiful lines of the E39 for granted. Just think of what that SOB is going to do to the 3-series coupe. Besides the E39 M5 and the 850CSi, it has to be the most beautiful BMW I've ever seen. I'll be very sad when its design is butchered. Damn Bangle and those members of the board of directors in Munich who approved his designs.

Check out latest issue of European Car. On page 15 titled "notes from Europe," it talks about the heat Bangle is taking for his designs. The latest of witch is the CS1 concept. One quote from a rival VP of design, "great way to ruin a brand" and apparently walked away smiling. What a joke. Is it me or have any of you heard enough of "oh the car isn't that bad" or "it will grow on you" For my money I want a car that I look at and say wow!
BMW's design direction is headed in the wrong direction and unfortunately, even if Bangle left tommorrow, his designs are too far along to change. Oh by the way, do not be fooled by the big 7 series sales, we'll see what happens next year when its not the "new" thing.

You can say that again, Lou. When I am walking towards my $80k car in the parking lot, I want to be floored everytime I see it from ANY angle instead of thinking, "Uhhh, well.... at least it has a 5.5 V10."

You hit the nail on the head.
KnightRider 20th May 2002, 10:06 I guess it depends on everyone's own perceptions, but "grows on me with time" doesn't really work in my case. I know whether I like the car or I don't very quickly after looking at it and after that my tastes don't change neither to the positive nor to the negative side. I hear several people saying that when E39 came out E34 owners weren't exactly impressed and they got used to it later. It didn't happen with me like that at all. By the time 5 series was replaced 6 years ago E34 looked dated to me and I really liked E39 design the first time I saw it.
Many recent cars I liked the moment I saw them. The list would include 7 series E38, 5 series E39, Z8, new Mercedes SL (almost all the new Mercedes designs for that matter), timeless beauty of Jaguar XJ series. And for example I never liked the frontal looks of Modena and I don't like it still, I never liked the rear of 3 series E46 and I don't like it still, both recent X and S type Jaguars I find to look like deformed BMW designs and I don't like them.
The first time I saw new 7 I didn't like it and I don't like it still. Big alloy wheels, white indicators, dark colours all help to disguise its' awful obesity, but they don't change it as such.
M5Bob 21st May 2002, 18:26 I think it looks great. Much better then the new 7. I like the clean, aggressive lines, especially the sharp transition that runs down the length of the body just below the windows. Very cool. While I'm not real keen on the headlight treatment on the 7, the slight changes in the 5 make a big difference. It also gives it an aggressive look. I can't wait! I can definitely do without those wheels, though.

Richard in NC 4th June 2002, 05:37 I agree that the E60 pic is a photoshop'd 7 series.
Maverick;
I agree. I want to be wowed the first time and every time I see the car. Styling is VERY important to me. Especially the interior as that's what you see when driving :) I can't deal with the straight accross look of the new 7 so we'll see what the next 5 is like inside.
I remember my first sighting of an E39 528i at a '97 auto show. I thought "I like that" the moment I saw it. When I saw the specs for the 540i I knew it was in my future but wouldn't have given the 540i a 2nd thought without its looks. The 540i then led to the M5.
Ok I haven't read thru all of Your replys so excuse me if I am repaeting someone, BUT! what has Mr.Bangle been smoking when he created that especially the front, it looks like has had a big fright, the rear I can live with, but this still doesn't look like a real BMW to me.
hmmm
Hutzal 6th June 2002, 19:39 I think that the BIGGEST problem with bangles designing for the front end of his cars to have the signal lights ON TOP of the headlights. That is just SO UGLY, i think that if he re-designed it with the signals on the left and right of the headlights the 7 would look way better. But then he has to fix the rear end  . Will his designs ever NOT need improvment?
Kevmmm 6th June 2002, 22:52 Maybe the headlight cluster will look better in person (no, who am I kidding, they just are not very attractive to me).
.....I wonder if these controversial headlights will spur an aftermarket company to create a better looking replacement for these lights? hmmm
young-nyc 6th June 2002, 23:55 its amazing what people can do with photoshop..:confused3
pnoble 7th June 2002, 04:09 Right on MAVERICK!!
$85K should buy LUV, total visceral day-in-day-out LUST, not:
'gee it isn't so bad, I think it may grow on me, hell , it could be worse, Bangle isn't really an MB agent, OK, it's butt ugly but what about the front lamp housing, hey, Bangle is an artist and we are buying art, OK, so BMW residual values are sinking faster than a stone, but I hear the 745i is headed for sales history....
This is getting totally silly. The SOB is killing BMW.
Sounds like the girl I banged in high school after too much of the bad stuff. (OK, I'm English, but you get my drift?)
