First Real Trip in 996TT

This weekend, my wife and I went up to Maine to see my dad. All told, it was 750 miles in the new 996TT. Man, I love this car!

Although it was tiring at times switching between 4th, 5th, and 6th (I'm still clocking break-in miles), the turbo is so poised on the highway. I don't think I've ever spent so much time over 100mph. And it was so chill --- a quick stab at the brakes brought us down to 75mph in a flash. This could end up being very bad for my insurance rates The seats are great.

There are definitely downsides --- road noise got old after 250mi in one sitting. So did the expansion joints on bridges --- I think my neck started to hurt from the jolts. The stereo is great but you have to really turn it up to hear it, which is also fatiguing on a long trip.

Other cars on the road started driving much faster. I don't know if it's because they wanted a closer look or if they suddenly feel like they're not driving fast enough after someone else passes them so rapidly. I'd be devastated if someone else got hurt because they were goaded into going faster by my rapid pace. Also, dicing thru traffic in my normal style seemed to raise people's ire much more than it has in the past --- at some point I'll probably piss off the wrong person.

Anyway, hope to have pix soon.

Which seats do you have?

I'm sure you posted it somewhere but I can't seem to remember.

Most of my car (including the seats) is standard-equipment spec. for the TT.

Had another 125mi ride today, and the one thing that strikes me the most is the grip. I kept looking for the bumpiest, nastiest tightening-radius turns to push harder through, and I just can't ruffle the chassis. I entered on- and off-ramps at speeds my brain was screaming "way too hot for this turn! slow down!" then proceeded to accelerate through them.

Cool stuff.

On ramps = launch pads!

I remember in my 993 TT that even when I was dealing with a 270 degree tight turning on-ramp that I could just build speed up through it just perfectly so as it started to straighten out I could drop the hammer and end up rocketing onto the highway...!

More than once I looked to my left just as I was about to floor it, only to see a cop there cruising along - sure he would have loved if I'd popped out in front of him at 110 and climbing!
