Two questions

First off, how long has BMW employed this Chris Bangle?

Second, who agrees with me when i think that bmw has never heard the phrase... "If its not broken dont fix it"

the M5 is like prefection, it should be pictured next to the word "car" in the dictionary...

come on bmw you can do better with the new 5 then the new 7

just my 2 sense.

well, if the current E39 was already perfect, it's pretty hard to top that with a new one, right? The only way is to go down....

but then they had to replace the E39 sooner or later... I don't think that the design would last for another 5 years.... they needed something new

your right, but the last time i talked to a bmw salesman he said that if you werent on the list you wouldnt be getting one, due to the new one coming out of course...

now if the waiting list is full then why not keep selling it?

i guess it really boils down to me not having any money now and by the time i do itll be too late for new... :(

I'm not so sure about that....there will probably be a perfect car. Not in the eyes of everyone that is. But I will go on to say that I think that the E39 M5 is about as close to perfection as one can get. Let's see if they can produce the same level of "magic" with the new E60 M5.

I agree that they had to replace the E39 at some point. But that doesn't mean that they had to screw it up!!! Look at Lexus. I'm not a big fan of their cars. However, I must admire how they've embraced the concept of "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Look at the LS430. If you liked the original LS400 when it first arrived in 1989/1990 then you probably like the refreshening that they did in the late 90's and the "new" LS430. Same thing with their ES. If you're able to forget about the ES250, and think back to the first REAL ES.... the ES300 that was introduced circa 1992, then you'd have to agree that they've managed to upgrade the car and keep it modern without destroying the essence of the car. Again, if you liked the original ES300, then you'll like the current ES.

If Lexus could figure it out, why can't BMW????

I actually really hate all the new Lexus.... the last generation ones were much nicer.. I guess it's to each his or her own...

im a big fan of the is300, good competition for the 3 series, even though it doesnt have that euro style or engineering

I think there 1 2 approaches: the first is like Porsche's: incremental changes, or like most other car manufacturer's: radical changes.

It looks like the M5 drivers are essentially Porsche's target market who need boot space and 4 doors.

Apparently the E60 is practically official as Autocar magazine latest publication says. I haven't read the article but to be honest I need to get used to the look which is a bit Far Eastern rather than Italian as it is not so German. Angular, sharp but not so muscular as I expected. Sophistication? We'll have to wait for the road test.

Again the V10 hopefully will be the crowning glory.

Thats what i thought about the F355. How could they ever top this ?.. Bamm the 360 Modena was introduced and it was better and more beautiful than the F355.

The funny thing is that I didn't like the F360 at first! I liked the 355 Spyder more at the time but now the F360 has definitely grown on me! :D
