Turbo with Tiptronic?

I ran into a friend last night at a bar who told he how excited he was having finalized an order for a new 911 turbo with the GT-2 engine package. He admiited however that in order to appease the wife he had to order a Tiptronic. Has anyone driven this combination? It seems it might not get you the same bang for the buck (about 150k) that the stick would provide. Any comments? Would a 360 be a better performance option if you had to have a clutchless trasmission?

errr.....

Don't get the tiptronic, it's slower and awkward to drive fast. I found that I could drive it faster in automatic and hated myself for it. Love yourself, get a manual....
Ferrari's are crap,....I hate Ferrari's.

6 o'clock here in the Uk, i'm off to the pub, y'all have a nice day now

Uh.... I don't think you can get Tiptronic with the GT2, only the 6 speed manual tranny.

P.S. I guess some people call the X50 option the GT2 package

"996 Turbo" and "tiptronic" shouldn't even be used in the same sentence.

raced a 996 turbo with tiptronic with my friend test driving it... the M5 was considerable faster... and yes, my friend was pushing the turbo as fast as the automatic would go!

It is the x50 option that he said he ordered. I reffered to it as the GT2 engine option. Also I did ask if he was sure he could get this opion with a Tiptronic and he said it was ordered and confrimed. I thought that it might exceed the power handling capabilities of the transmission but ???

Seeing a TT w/ the tiptronic always makes me cringe... sort of like seeing a really hot chick smoking a cigarette. Kind of kills the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if it also negatively affected future resale. If the wife really has to drive the TT he might be better off bribing her w/ jewelry and sending her off to driving school (or perhaps even attending class with her).
