996tt vs. 996 GT2 - differences?

Pardon my ignorance but why's the GT2 so much better and so much more expensive?

I'm no expert but the GT2 is the newest one of the 911 model, top of the line, most powerful street legal porsche ever produced. Cant wait!!! I might be able to get a ride in one, if the owner still wants to give me a ride. hehe

1- The boost level for the Turbos in the GT2 is higher than in the 996tt.

2- The GT2 is a rear wheel drive compared to the 996tt's 4WD.

3- The GT2 has the new PCCB (which stands for Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes)

4- The GT2 has a one inch lower ride height and tires larger by once inch compared to the 996tt

Those are the main differences that I've heard and read. Hope this helps. I would recommend you visit www.porsche.com for more info

If you just want to get the extra boost on your TT, you can swap out the turbos for ~$20k. Maybe less, but that's the figure that I heard offhand.

From what I have read in magazines many Porsche enthusiasts and owners have complained that the 996tt is too civilized and wanted some of the 993's characteristics put back in the car and perhaps make it a more "pure" sports car. To that extent the 996 gt2 has no back seats, fixed rear wing spoiler, no awd and I believe no PSM. These along with the other mentioned differences are supposed to make it more of a "driver's" car and require more involvement.

Adds:

1. 40HP
2. Ceramic Brakes (PCCB)
3. Modified front end and rear spoiler
4. Slightly larger tires
5. Suspension modifications
6. $60,000 increase in price

Deletes:

1. All wheel drive - GT2 is rear only
2. No PSM (stability control)
3. Rear seats (not much use anyway)
4. Probably a few other items I can’t remember

I thought it added more than 40 HP?

415 hp vs 462 hp??

There's another option for those 996TT owners looking for a bit more kick without going the GT2 route. I think it was the X51 option. Correct me if I'm wrong but it boosts HP output from 415 HP to 450 HP and does a few other things. Can't recall what they were.

Just drove a new GT2!

The car screams like a Taliban running from an F-14! I would love to tell you who the importer was who let me do this, but he would shoot me if he found out I squealed. Also, in my last breath before dying, I would have to whisper to the men in black suits to go find you, and shoot you too!

The car is simply awesome. It fires off like a NASA rocket, stops on a thumbtack, and corners like it's on rails. But the rear wing on the 996TT just fits the sexy hips of the car much better. The GT2's wing, though effective, looks to me like some of the wings I see on Hondas every day down here in Boy-Racer Miami. I just think that PorscheDesign could have done something "a little better," that's all. Now, as far as the new Carrera GT is concerned...were definitely talking about something exotic here. Should money be the least of your problems...then get with it! Were speaking about the *real* dream car! Specs: 0-62 in less than 4sec. Price: Your home, M car, boat, and some spare ashtray quarters!

*What* looked really nice...the red GT2 or the female driver?

Ahhh, London. Miss those pubs.

Cheers,

Speaking of the Carrera GT - anyone have a clue what the price will be - I read it'll be a 2003 model. Will it be available in the U.S.??

Now that is definitely is a car to drool over!!
