97 993 Turbo vs 2002 996 Turbo

I'm considering the purchase of a turbo, but am concerned with the latest model's quality versus the Porsche's of the past. I owned a 95 model C4 and loved the materials and quality and had no problems with it at all. I've driven the latest 996 coupe (non-turbo) and it appears the interior just doesn't impress me (The 996 is ergonomically leaps ahead, but the 993 had higher quality carpet, knobs felt solid, etc.)

So any thoughts on a 97 Turbo S vs a 996 TT?

BTW - it would appear the 97 Turbo S is faster - does anyone know? Claims are 0-60 in 3.8 secs, Top Speed 188

If you can get a 993 Turbo S, JUMP ON IT! From what I understand, they're a rare breed of car, and for all of porsche's modern cars (those who know me knwo I'm not a huge fan of the cars) ... a white 993 Turbo S is the ULTIMATE porsche (2nd only to the 959)

Pick one up if you can. Are they close in price? My understanding is that the Turbo S still retails for about 160.

I saw a Porsche 959 for sale in a local magazine for $475 000 CAD, is that in line with the current asking prices?

What are the performance numbers produced from that model. I'm curious to know more about the 959. Thanks for any info

Jet Black - I've been doing a ton of research on the pros/cons of the various 911 turbos in the line and found this page on the 959 : http://www.911turbo.com/turboclub/history/959/959.html

230 cars made at an estimated cost of $530,000 (sold for $225k).

Performance numbers are :

0-60 in 3.6 for the Sport model
Top Speed of 196

I seem to remember them selling for close to $1M when they first came out - but have no idea what a price would be in today's market.

Bobafett - thanks for the reply - I saw a Turbo S wit 5k miles for 140k - thats what stirred my interest - so *roughly* the same ballpark as a 2002. Just curious - why aren't you a fan?

i am thinking about selling my m5 for a 996tt. my dealer was nice enought to let me take one out for a day. boy was i unimpressed with the interior quality. however, the rest of the car is pretty amazing so i guess you have to get used to those plastic looking buttons.

i had a 96 993tt..............the 996tt is a much better all around car. and while i loved the 993tt i would definitely get the 996.

Although the 996 TT is a faster car, I love the look of the 993 TT better. It actually has some luscious curves! The strong, very muscular lines in the car were incredible on the widebody versions of the 993 and it's too bad some of that has disappeared in the newer 911s.
