Options selected on 996t?

I too am one of those thinking about selling my M5 and getting a 996tt but I am not sure which options are important and generally desired by most would-be buyers. I ask this for two reasons: 1) the option list for the 996 can very quickly drive up the price to levels that make this car unattainable for me. 2) If I were to resell the car I would want it to have the key options that most people would be looking for and thus get more of my money back on them and sell the car quickly.
I was thinking; 1premium sound 2supple leather 3Biggest wheels available?

Thanks, Bill

The Porsche options list is truly daunting. The Turbo comes very well optioned, much more than the other 996's - for example I'm pretty sure all leather is standard. Most of the options just change it cosmetically. Some guys do painted consoles, carbon-fiber this and that, etc.

I didn't spec my car - I bought it from a broker who spec'd it and ordered it. My car has supple leather. It is better looking to me. Several people say it wears out faster, though. Get the big audio package, get heated seats (I didn't, and I really miss them). Make the car look the way you want it. AFAIK, all Turbo's come with 18" wheels and there is no larger size.

I don't have my options list in front of me, but of the stuff I remember includes the stainless steel door sills, Porsche crests on seats, turbo wheel center caps, the high-end stereo. I do not have anything painted inside, nor do I have any carbon fiber. I don't have white gauges. I didn't delete the sunroof. I didn't replace or delete the Turbo logo on the back. I didn't get the bumperette-delete option (might consider this but at the time this meant the car had to be raised in ride height even more, which is unacceptable to me. )

my car came with the CD-player and heated seats---from what I've been told, you loose money on the options...if i had a choice, i would have done the 6-disc changer---too expensive to do a retrofit

Also keep in mind that all those options will cause your 996TT price to jump in leaps and bounds! By the time I'd spec'ed out the options at the time of order my price had jumped from 130k to about 145k! So, my advice to you would to be especially careful about getting what YOU want.

Important things to me would be the supple leather, 6 cd changer, heated seats, white face gauges and the nav system.

BTW, I never got the 996TT in the end. Went for the M5 instead! I'll get the 996TT later though.

The others have it covered really. I managed to find a car where someone backed out before it arrived. It's very sparsely optioned, which is fine for me. I want all of the substance and none of the fluff.

If I had ordered the car, I would've gotten the natural brown leather ($1400), heated seats ($400), power lumbar ($380 per side), stainless door sills ($??). Also probably would've gotten some deviating stitching. Gray or red or blue thread would look good on the natural brown in a silver car IMO. I might've gone for the carbon shifter/brake ($875), but at some point you need to stop yourself, because the options costs are largely unrecoverable on resale.

The two options my car has that I really wanted are the aluminum dials and the in-dash CD.

The ones that prospective buyers (individuals and dealers) seem to want are heated seats, upgraded sound system, and good seats (either sports seats or the regular seats with full power and full lumbar). This info is anecdotal, of course. I think that irrespective of resale, aluminum dials certainly make one of the nicest interior impacts. They are so much better looking than the standard white numbers on black background dials -- really livening up the interior / dash. But whatever options you order, don't plan on getting anything close to your money back, and for some options, any money back at all.

As noted, the turbo already has pretty much everything included. You will not get your money back at resale for many of the pricey options.

I ordered the basic items – CD changer, in dash CD, heated seats, floor mats, supple leather seats (seems to be some debate whether these are good or bad but they look nice), lumbar support, colored wheel caps and the parking sensor. My extra items were just the aluminum gages and carbon/aluminum shifter. I stayed away from the $6K carbon package, etc., as it just did not matter to me.

It really comes down to personal preference.

Exclamation

Now is the best time to buy a Porsche. I went to the dealer loaded up my car 2002 996 TT Guards Red/Black Leather, Supple, Carbon Wheel, Red Seat Belts, Large Carbon Pkg, Red Seat and Dash Stiching, Carbon Shifter, CD Changer, CD Radio, Center Console painted Guards Red, 6 Speed, Park Assist, Heated Seats, Dual Power Lumbar sticker was over $128,000. They had a opening for April build May delivery. I offered them $119,000 and they accepted it!!!!!

I went there within 2 hours signed the papers and gave them a deposit. I made sure they put on the paperwork that it would be delivered in May 2002.

They called my yesterday with a production number.

I could not believe they took the order for that price. I called 5 other Porsche dealers and NO one would touch that price.

Option it like you want it. And DEAL with the salesman. Good Luck with your order.

Wow, CONGRATULATIONS!

Red seat belts, very nice. Dash stitching, bvery nice too. What colour are the stitches? Park assist really look ugly on the 996, at least the ones I saw. You might want to rethink that?

Any case, you will have a really agressive looking 996 Turbo there! Watch your licens

Gustav,

I made sure all the stiching and seat belts were Guards Red!!!

I saw the park assist on a red one and it wasn't "that" bad. Some of the parking garages in Baltimore are very narrow and I know the rearward site out of the 996 is not the greatest. I hope park assist helps.

Thanks for the vote of confidence!!!

Congrats! That is going to look great.

I agree with Gustav on the park assist. Mine did not have it and I was glad. I know of a few owners who ordered it for similar reasons (tight garages, etc.) and later regretted it. It'll take no time to get a feel for the car and if ever in doubt, just take the extra time to do a three-point turn, for example, instead of trying to swing the car all at once. 996 visibility is quite good all around, actually, and amazingly good for a sports car.

But the red belts and stitching will look great!

Enjoy the car regardless. I just wanted you to have multiple owners' feedback while you still might be able to change your order.
