          "Accept" on Nav system?

          Well I love my 2002 M5 Bluewater/Silverstone car-its what my wife calls BUUTTTTERRR...but, having to always push the 'accept" button after I turn the car on everytime on the nav system is detering my experience...anyone know how disable that or "accept" it just once?
          Thanks.

          You would think after pushing that button a couple hundred times, that would be enough acceptance!

          Do our European friends also have to go through the "Accept" deal? If not we should be able to reprogram the computer.

          Maybe we have to sign some sort of release like we do to activate the rear side air bags?

          I think all you lawyers should have to have about FIFTY screens to accept before your car starts!!!!!!!! You guys deserve all the combined punishment! It's all your fault you sob's...

          (sorry...I'm having a bad day, dealing with TWO bogus lawsuits...)

          It's a shame that corporations need these sort of disclamers to defend themselves against unfounded claims. I find the screen as annoying as the next person, but I don't blame BMW legal, or the legal profession as a whole.

          IMHO, the blame lies with these groups:
          • Drivers who don't accept responsibility for their own negligence and try to blame accidents on bogus "design flaws" or anyone else but themselves
          • Plaintiffs' personal injury litigation attorneys, who represent those drivers and construct arguments that pin legal responsibility on the manufacturer for not preventing drivers from acting irresponsibly
          • Jurors, who buy into the idea that insurance companies and corporations are just deep pockets and should pay whenever some idiot hurts himself
          • Judges for not throwing these legal claims out of the courtroom
          • Federal and state legislators, who could cure this problem by protecting the manufacturers from bogus claims, but who are in the back pockets of the Trial Lawyers Association lobby
          • The U.S. public for continuing to reelect the judges and legislators that allow these abuses to continue
          Even if you signed a release, the person to whom you lend or sell your car could still sue BMW if they have an accident while being distracted by the Nav screen. Requiring the driver to accept the message for each trip is the best way for BMW to ensure each driver sees the warnings and accepts the disclaimer.

          The Nav screen is equally distracting in the phone, radio, OBC, DSP, Nav, etc. modes. So if BMW were to only require the driver to accept at the Nav mode interface, BMW will face a lawsuit from some bonehead who runs off the road while dialing the numbers on the phone screen.

          Just my .02

          I wrote this code to ignore the 'accept' button but BMW never implemented:

          Dim iCounter as Integer

          iCounter = 51

          If iCounter >= 50 then
          ignore 'accept' message
          else
          popup 'accept' message
          end if

          I have talked with two service departments regarding this, they all thought it was a "one time" so they are in agreement it is an issue and both have stated that they will try to get a solution. We can only hope.

          No "Accept" on Nav system!

          I just realized that I haven't been pressing accept on my nav system everytime I turn on the car. I used to have to do this when I had the old nav software. I upgraded to ver 18 about a month and a half ago, and since then I never saw the accept button. I just checked this again. I turn the car on, the "BMW" is on the screen, then I just choose GPS-navigation and map or directions. Very happy about this but don't know the reason.

          I kinda got use to it. It became part of the routing of getting in and starting the car. Close door, put key in, press clutch, start car, push accept button, put seat belt on, and get going... I don't even have to think of it any more (which defeats the purpose of the whole thing I suppose )..
