The egg incident..

So i was driving in MD this past weekend visiting a friend.
I'm minding my own business following traffic in a 2 way enviroment when suddenly i see a truck approaching from the opposite direction. I think nothing of it and then i see some object hurling towards my windshield as the truck passed by.
And then it happened... THUMP!!! i thought a rock hit my car.
I examine my windshield for any cracks while i'm still driving for i couldn't stop the car on the road, I saw nothing. and thought phew that was a close one.
As i got to my hotel, i examined the outside, and there it was...an egg splattered all over the front driver side roof. I quickly cleaned it off with a damp towel and underneath all the mess lied the horror!
There were chipped paint in the shape of an oval and there wasn't a polish in the world that would take this sucka off..

i want to take a pic and post it for you guys to see, however the thought of seeing it again might stress me out over and over

but i'll do it anyway just for the heck of it .

oh whatevers...i called my body shop guy and i'm going to take her in for an estimate..hope all goes well

but the question remains..
who threw that egg?
did it fall off the truck and hit me?
because the egg hit as soon as the truck passed by..
or was there someone on the side street just waiting with an egg?

any detectives here??

here are the pictures

That stinks. I can empathize with you. I live in Staten Island – the punk capital of the USA. I have had eggs thrown at 3 of my last 4 cars. All got nailed around Halloween while parked at home.

It is surprising how much damage an egg can do to a car finish. It leaves a very distinctive pattern of concentric circular chips in the clear coat and sometimes all the way through the paint.

My 1995 E36 M3 got hit 3 times damaging the clear coat only. My 2001 E39 M5 got hit once chipping the paint on the driver’s side door and mirror. My wife’s Mercedes got nailed a couple of months ago chipping the paint on the rear driver’s side door. Unfortunately I am renting while building a new home in NJ and have no garage. I have since rented garage space at a storage facility until my home in NJ is built.

This is one topic that I am not proud of being an expert on.

My E34 got hit about a month ago. Nice spiral of removed paint on trunk lid and slight chips under door handle. BASTARDS!! It went clear through to the metal. What was amazing is it was a very damp evening and despite the significant due on the car it still did its damage.

I think the damage is caused by the force of the egg.

I was doing 50 MPH some years back in my Lincoln and two kids tossed some eggs in the air and I sort of ran into them.

Paint was physically damaged.

I wouldn't be surprised if some bird was flying along and laid the egg in the air. I remember reading about this happening somewhere.

WOW! I didn't realize how much damage an egg could cause. Now I guess I'll have to give chase if one is thrown at me. I wonder if my garage is "egg proof"?

One of my cars got egged years ago, and left exactly the kind of damage you guys have described. It makes sense, if you think about it - after all, what's an eggshell made of? Calcium carbonate, mainly - otherwise known as LIMESTONE. Basically it's a thin, hollow rock. When it breaks at speed, all the sharp broken edges slam into your paint.
