A Present you could give yourself!

I was surfing around the web today looking at R/C cars again for the first time in about 10 years. When I was younger, I built about 6 of the electric ones and found it to be pretty fun. But today I was looking at the 1/10th scale Nitro powered ones that can reach speeds of 50+ mph! But here's the coolest thing. The company that offers this car, also offers the M5 body that you can paint and customize yourself. So I'm thinking I just might have to get one of these things to match my current beast. And I could call it "mini-beast" for short! They cost around $250 for the kit and then you have to go and buy the M5 body seperately. The place I was looking today was www.hpiracing.com which is where the 1/10th scale Nitro RS4 is offered. But I looked everywhere on that site for the M5 body and couldn't find one. So then I did a search and came up with this place where they did have one for $20. It's http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...1&I=LL2758&P=1

What do you guys think? Pretty cool huh?

Anything from Griot's Garage

This looks pretty handy. I just hate unearthing our mobility kit from the trunk & then having to put it back!

BIMMERUP,
I have a HPI Nitro powered 1/10th car. You probably know this already but don't be fool by the price ($250). There're all kinds of mods/upgrades that are available. And like many of us on this board, mods are almost a necessities in our life. My car probably worth about $1500 with mods and there are still plenty of mods I can do to it. I just want you to know what you are getting into. Nevertheless, I enjoy it. It's a lot fun.

Later,
Kenneth

You can say that again. I also have the Nitro RS4 kit too with a McLaren F1 and NSX body. Like Kenneth mentioned, theres a TON of mods available for those kits. I spent a small fortune on mine and I finally GAVE it up when I realized how much of an addiction it was becoming for me.

It's good fun...my car could hit about 60-70 mph the last time I tried it out.

Unfortunately for me I had run into one of those reflectors in the middle of the road and my car went AIRBORNE! Fortunately for me it landed on the grass so there was minor damage...whew!

R/C Cars

Hey everyone,

R/C are really cool especially when you can't own the real thing like me but give me a few years with C++ and VB and I will be just like you guys. Anyways if you want a really nice R/C car then get a 1/8 serpent Vector and you will be amazed. I have raced many r/c cars both on-road and off-road and the serpent is just amazing it ran at about 75MPH + around the track with a 3HP motor and its 0-60 was better then the formula 1 race car. Anyways have fun and remember all the nitro cars are such a pain in the butt esp when you get to the nice 300-400 dollar motors.

Cool car! That photo almost belongs on that other thread "What has BMW learned from Porsche?". Here it is - an air cooled mid/rear engined M5!

Thanks for the responses guys!

Kenneth
Yes I do know how expensive the modifications can be for an R/C car like this, but thanks for the heads up. A lot of guys would probably think they're getting all they can get with just $250. I think it would be fun to start out by getting the kit first and building it up with my kids. Then I'll probably move on to some upgrades down the road.

Dr. Rob
Yep! My two boys are getting old enough to start appreciating some of the bigger boy toys! So I think they'll enjoy watching and helping me build a little car like this and then seeing it run around the block.

atomic80
I can see that these types of toys could be a major addiction. I bet the car looks sweet with the NSX body on it.

Pimpradical
Thanks! I'll look up Serpent and see what they have. Is the one you have a 1/8th size with a weedwacker engine? Because it seems that the R/C cars with the weedwacker engines are a lot more expensive than the Nitro powered car.

PhilSeastrand
Yes, that's the body that I saw available from the other vendor! I would definately have to get that body and paint it as close to Lemans Blue as I could.

The only other thing I was thinking about, was the next size up R/C from HPI which is the Super RS4 Nitros. They say they're about 20% bigger than the 1/10th scale which allows them to handle better overall. Anyone here who have Nitro cars have any suggestions?

Thanks again everyone and Merry Christmas
