About to do Dinan Stg 2 susp--need reassurance

Hi everyone. Thanks to all for the help with deciding on wheels for my recently arrived M5. I went with the 20in BBS LMs from Tire Rack and am very happy. Just as others have done, I used the 10mm spacers in front and hubcentric rings only in back, and the fit is perfect. Now I need a bit of hand holding...

Dinan Stage 2 suspension is set to be installed in about a week, and I just want to be sure of two things:

          1) The ride won't rattle my teeth out. I use the car as a family car on weekends, and need to maintain a degree of civility. I would really like the removal of understeer and slight ride height drop the Dinan system offers, but I'll be disappointed if the ride becomes really jarring, especially with the 20in wheels.

          2) There won't be any rubbing issues, given the fact that my BBS wheels now sit 13mm (front) and 14mm (rear) closer to the bodywork than stock. I've read that boardmembers with the H&R springs and BBS LMs have done okay without rubbing, and their pictures look great, but it just seems like any bit of suspension travel would create rubber on metal contact. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance. Also, I saw a black M5 on Jericho Tpke in Huntington LI Saturday afternoon with the NY plate "PWR BUTN"--clever. Anyone here?

The ride is nearly exactly the same as stock. its very hard to tell the difference at all. I have 20's and its still a very nice ride.

Agreed. I haven't put the rims on yet, but the ride quality is still great. Comfort is still very comfortable, and I have a back that hates bumps.

The only potential issue you might have is the chance of a slight rub when you have everyone in the car and you use the "Comfort" setting. You probably would never have the rub during normal driving on the road, but could have a rub in certain situations like when turning into a parking lot where there is a bit of a ramp.

The springs have a higher rate to keep the car from hitting the bump-stops. You'll feel this as a *slightly* stiffer ride.

With the Stage 2 suspension, the ride feels stiffened almost 1/2 way to the next stiffer setting. In other words, with the new suspension, the Comfort setting will feel about like half way between the old Comfort setting and old Normal setting.

Most passengers (like your wife) probably won't notice any difference at all.

That said, this mod is as close to all upside as it gets (after removing the 2nd set of filters). You will LOVE the way it reduces body roll and makes the turn-in feel much crisper. If you drive your car hard, you will notice a slightly reduced understeer as well.

If you like to drive in the Sport setting, you will absolutely love this mod.

OpenWheel is absolutely correct. Significant and noticeable improvement in handling. The only other issue is the potential need to periodically tighten the Front Roll Control bolts, they tend to work loose leading to a "clunk" noise when hard cornering. All in all, a superior mod, particularly if you track the car. I have noticed substantial roll reduction at the track and reduced understeer.

The Dinan setup reduces body roll and understeer, at the expense of some road comfort. On bumpy roads, Comfort Mode feels like Normal Mode, yet overall, well worth the small sacrifice. Enjoy.
