SMG vs DSG
Went this weekend with the wife to look at the new audi TT roadster for her...She wanted the Dsg tranny and all the mags rave about the DSG on the audi TT A3 and VW GTI...Because I had the pleasure of driving the M5 smg just 4 days eariler, I have a good bases for comparison...Its not even close folks, the SMG shifter much quicker and smoother, esp in the quicker modes..I was suprised by this and perhaps this DSG on the car we drove was slower than normal, but it did seem slower than a GTI I drove over this past summer....as much negative comments the m5 smg gets, it seems pretty impressive to me on my 2 test drives...and I am a manual stick shift guy by nature.....

I find that my 2008 M5 shifts rather smoothly, but you definitely know when it is shifting, especially in the lower gears at lower speeds. But I'm fine with that.
For people who want perfectly smooth shifts, get a torque converter

A thing found on all slushboxes.
If you need to ask what a slushbox is, you will be banned from all car enthusiast boards.

I love my SMG. I have NEVER had a problem (just prob. jinxed myself).
All I read about the DSG tranny has been excellent and touted as the best in automotive. I have never driven it though.
The new Nissan GTR will have the DSG and the video I saw was very impressive.

you cannot expect a regular A3 or TT have a fast uncomfortable abrupt lightning gear change, Those cars made to drive daily for normal people...And if that would be the case noone would want to drive a DD with rough or fast shifting.... I bet its all about Tranny computer programming! I saw a video of Gallarado Superlaggera and the shifts of that car was sooo impressive and fast!

I love my SMG but understand the DCT 'box will appeal to the masses. A good thing will be the increased revenue for Motorsport, but more M5s on the road is the negative result. I'll miss the thump in the back at WOT gearchanges but my gf will be happy
