Exhaust tip help
I just had supersprint x-pipe and race mufflers installed on my m5. I like the sound but i just feel that my tips may be out a bit too much. when my car warms up and the exhaust heats up the tips extend due to the metal expanding, its the weirdest thing to watch. can some of you post some pics of your exhausts so i can see how much to adjust the x-pipe on mine? also if i cut the xpipe a little to bring the tips in will it affect the sound? Thanks for all the help

yeah its weird as the tips get hot they extend out an additional 1" or more and once it cools it reverts back to its original size. when its hot it looks like some type of missle launcher. lol

At the most, the tips shoudl be even with your bumper when cold on the SS setup. This system expands more than the others from my experiences. Jus thave the shop bring them in a bit more if they can and be sure the tips are not touching the plastic bumper.

who did your install in LA. I'm getting my ss race installed in a couple of weeks. No x-pipe but I appreciate this "heads-up" so I pay attention to my install. I do not like the pipes sticking out either.

actually my installer was great. i wasnt sure about the tips myself so he told me to wait a few days and then decide how much i wanted to adjust it. i would have done the same thing if i was the installer. i appreciate that he didnt decide for me what i should do about "my" car. so no worries there.

I think when it's cold, the tip should just about even/flush with the bumper. You don't want to be too inward to compensate when it's hot. Because when it's hot, that usually mean you driving and no one will be able to get a good look at exhaust's tip anyway. My exhaust stick out 1-1.5" when it's hot, but I'm more care about when it parks

Cutting the x pipe will have no effct on the performance or flow. That is your best bet IMHO. That or a good beating on the exhaust with a hammer and piece of wood, *haha*.

OK, here are the pics.
At Cold (about 1cm extended):
At Hot (about 1-1.5inches):
If you look at my previous pic, I also have to cut my x-pipe well short to accomdate my muffler connecting point (well short of heatsink).
