does anyone on here have photos of the stock airbox??? secondly photos of the baffles that ppl remove??? ive read in the archives, that some members have removed 'trumpet' and or 'baffle' from the airbox. i am curious, where are these items located?

i meant these:

^there are usually panels over that... these are the baffles ppl discuss removing? where are the 'trumpets' located? (not velocity stacks, but read that theres a plastic trumpet on or in the airbox???)

There is a "trumpet" right inside the stock airbox that is supposed to diffuse the air over the entire filter. It is a detachable piece that sits over the opening from the inlet pipe.

The baffles are the ones indicated in your picture, but I believe the final resolution was that they were intended to remain there on the M5 even though removal seems to help on other 5's.

are there any benefits of removing this piece??? secondly, has anyone around these parts done the drilled holes in the intake or is the favourable intake mod the sinkdrain, and or kit from vendor?

The only benefit I can see to removing the trumpet would be that it wouldn't fall out any more while re-installing the cover. From a horsepower / effectiveness perspective, I see no reason why it would matter...

As for the intake, a lot of people have used sink drains and more people use aftermarket CAI's. I can see that drilling holes would work, but there would still be a lot of the mesh left in the way that would prevent non-turbulent airflow. If money is no object, I'd go Dinan. If you are like me and it matters, then the sink drain is the way to go...

The holes in the air box would allow hot air from the engine compartment to enter the engine, lowering overall performance and exacerbating heat soak.

You mean if he disconnected the tube going to the airbox from the box itself right?

I was referring to the stupid extra piece inside the box that looks like the end of a trumpet - doesn't seem like it has much effect one way or the other, but removing it wouldn't allow any more (or less) hot air in...

Removing the trumpet from the airbox lid will reduce airflow.
If its loose, you might try putting a small amount of silicone sealant to hold it from moving.

Pulling the plugs in front of the rad(Photo) just heated the air behind the bumper.
That was in one of the other threads that someone said it made more buttdyno power.
