Do you mean the "service engine soon" light? Also known as SES light?

Yes, there is a way of finding out what is wrong with your car without going to the dealer. You need a Peake Tool.

Yes, in the US the symbols are words but in Europe they are symbols.

It sounds like the Lambda sensor could be acting up. Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? Worth taking it into a dealer to download the codes and get a diagnosis.
