Brake Pad Advice

Wife is buying me SS lines and brake pads for my birthday on the 22nd. My type of driving is agressive and I do a lot of hard street driving and rallying through some hard corners. I don't road course my beast though and probably won't. 100% Hard-core street addict. I currently have stock rotors. What are my options for best performing pads? I also DD this during the summer months too so really noisey isn't to my liking

I quite like the Axis pads that StopTech ships with their BBKs. They are a little light for track duty, but for street driving they are fantastic!

Look into Axxis Ultimates for street duty. Great combination on the M5 IMO. Hope this helps.

For a set of "street" pads, you'd be correct. However;

1) Those are the track pads, not street
2) Its cheaper if you buy direct from Carbotech.
3) CT's last longer than other brake pads (at least in my experience)

The Bobcat 1521 or the AX6 can be used on the street on our cars.

$269 for a set of Bobcats (street)
$327 for a set of AX6's (Technically autocross, but can be run on the street if you dont mind a little noise now and again)

Axxis Ultimates for road use. Don't forget to upgrade brake fluid to something like Motul RBF 6000.

Everything you would want to know and purchase regarding brakes for your M5 can be found here: http://www.zeckhausen.com/BMW/E39_M5.htm. Axxis Deluxe will be very low dust and sufficient for the street. If you really want to drive aggressively in a safe manner, you should be going to the race track with your local BMW CCA club. Give it a drive, you will become addicted which is a good thing

Already do but not in my M5...

I have cool carbon pads on my car. I bought them from bavauto.com for 118f 112r. they are low dust and have lots of bite for the street.

I still find that the oem pads regardless of their dust, provide better initial grip compared most aftermarket pads. I personally will stay with oem just because of this.

This of course is imho for street driving.

Probably so. I will hopefully be able to report on Centric Posi-Quiets soon. I have them and a new set of rotors ready to go but haven't found time to install them.
