Mg Zt385?

Okay, it's not an M5, but it's interesting anyway...

http://www.fantasycars.com/sedans/html/mgzt.html

(the MG homepage is at http://www.mgcars.co.uk but it's a damn Flash site.)

They've taken the front-drive Rover 75/MG ZT and converted it to rear-drive, stuffed a 4.6L Ford Mustang engine in it, in two flavors - 260HP (presumably SOHC Mustang engine) and 385HP (supercharged, whether it's SOHC or DOHC is unknown.)

I think that every mustang is SOHC , because as far as I'm concerned american makes expect cadillac haven't ever made a DOHC V8 , but correct me if i'm wrong , because i'm not interested in american cars as big as in european...

Btw , the rover 75 , that is it's base is quite small inside , isn't it? 5-series aren't very big IMO , but this appears to be even smaller , right?

The Ford mod-motors come in several different flavors:

4.6L SOHC - 190-215HP (embarrassing) in Town Cars, Crown Victorias, Grand Marquis, and 95-98 Mustang GTs. 260HP in 99-up Mustang GTs. Iron block now, will be aluminum from 2002? on.

4.6L DOHC - 250HP in Continental (FWD), 280HP in Mark VIII (out of production ~3yrs now), 305HP in Mustang Cobra 96-98, 320HP in current Mustang Cobra. Aluminum block (think the FWD and RWD blocks are different.)

5.4L SOHC - truck motor, iron block.

5.4L DOHC - 325HP in Lincoln Navigator, 385+HP in '00 Mustang Cobra R. Iron block.

6.8L SOHC V10 - truck motor, iron block.

The 3.9L in the Lincoln LS is a DOHC V8, it's basically a Jag AJ-V8 with the variable cam timing removed and iron liners in the block.

The 2.5L and 3.0L Duratec V6s are also DOHC engines. The 3.4L '96-99 SHO V8 was a 60-degree balance-shaft V8, basically a 2.5L Duratec V6 with two extra cylinders added. The 3.0/3.2L SHO V6 of the early '90s was a Yamaha-built DOHC V6 based on the block dimensions (but not actual parts) of a 60-degree pushrod Ford V6.

As for interior space of the Rover 75 - I've never been in one, but the vehicle overall is a couple cm shorter than an E39.

I'd registered on the MG website, so today I got a letter from MG/Rover. Form letter, but still nice to hear from them, considering that I doubt the US is going to see this car, at least for a few years.

They're claiming the ZT 385 will be good for 0-60 in 4.7 sec, 0-100 in 9.5, and that it'll reach 175mph where it's legal to do so.

We know, of course, that it will likely reach 175mph where it's not legal to do so as well, but we won't talk about that.
