Australian spec M5 Bluetooth upgrade warning

After a frustrating few days, my initial thoughts have been confirmed, and we are indeed different down here.
Martin at Bimmernav has confirmed that our cars have been specced by BMW Australia to ship without the 54 pin plug required for the ULF module and the bluetooth upgrade.
The good news is that there is a adaptor plug/harness that will get around the problem, and it only costs $90US.
Unfortunately, the last few days have been frustrating, trying to communicate across timezones, and find out why I was having such trouble with an apparently simple mod.
Martin has stuck by me though, big thanks to him.

So, back out to the car now to put the bits and pieces back together and await the fedex delivery.

Actually ALL M5s built after 03/02 worldwide (even Australia) equipped with option code SA640 (telephone prewiring) have the 54 pin connector. A previous owner must have added or changed the wiring. That 54 pin connector you speak of is called Universal II phone wiring harness, and started 03/02

My car was ordered, sold and only serviced through Brisbane BMW, there is no record of any alterations.
My SA at Brisbane BMW said yesterday that he had to do a BT retrofit on a E39 because the existing BMW phone stopped working and could no longer be sourced for warranty replacement. He had to do all the wiring.

No need to redo the wiring, just to add bluetooth... You just need an adapter harness. Plus the only way to be sure is to get your option code list and determine what the option codes are. All BMWs from 03/02 (except X5 04/02) changed to the universal II phone wiring harness. You can verify this with the BMW WDS (Wiring Diagram DVD)

By the way, dealers are not the smartest on this kind of stuff... That has been proven time and time again
