Magnaflow Cans/Xpipe

Now before you start blasting on me. I searched the topic through and through but still left with a few questions. That said, I'm looking to do the 14186 can's and the 10791 X pipe.

1st -- what's better, cans and the x pipe together --- or just the cans? I'm not looking for something that you can hear 3 blocks away --- just something that's 50% louder than stock at idle and going through the gears.

2nd -- will I run into problems smogging the car? Cali native...

3rd -- will the exhaust require extensive labor or just basic cutting and spot welding?

Thanks for looking and providing advice all. Going Tubi, Kelleners or Dinan isn't in stars for me even though they are great products --- just over priced metal in book...Thanks again...

I'd say cans and the x-pipe.

I have the 14815 cans, no resonator, no X-pipe - just straight pipes. And I love the way it sounds. About 50% louder than stock, deep rumble at low rpm's and at idle, screams at high rpm's and wot. It only took the shop 90 minutes to install the pipes and cans. I have a 10791 X-pipe I'll discount to you since I didn't use it. Just PM me.

What about part #14218? It is probably a better match for the stock 2.5 inch piping?

Magnaflow X Pipe

Here are my details from a few previous threads; Magnaflow x pipe with B&B Triflo.

Overall the fit is great in the same position as the factory resonator. The shop originally had the X within 1/4 inch of the rear diff coupling for an extra tight fit, looked great, but there is some movement in the diff which created contact. They re-did the cut angle on the pipes exiting the cat/crossmember area creating a little more clearance. No need to flatten the pipes, although my shop did make the whole unit smaller by taking off the magnaflow "inlets" to the X.

Overall the sound with the X is great, the Triflows do have bass between 1500 and 2000 rpm, sound strong on startup, but settle down at idle once warmed up. I have some clips with my camera mounted underneath the car at speed that I'll post.

I paid $290 for the custom X Pipe, all stainless 2.5", welded, magnaflow X and B&B Triflo install.

Simon

1) The X is going to make it louder, and should improve flow on the top end. Better depends on what you are looking for. You will be able to hear the car from a good distance with the X and cans, magnaflows are designed to be loud. However, it shouldnt be obnoxious.

2) No, as you are not touching the cats there should be no difference in emissions (well, save for noise emission)

3) Cut/Weld/Hangers.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I went ahead and purchased the cans and xpipe and I plan on taking my car to All German Auto in San Diego assuming they do exhaust work. For other SD natives --- do you recommend another exhaust shop? Thanks again all for your help.

Cheers...

San Diego? Great I'm contemplating the exact same setup. Would you be willing to meet up at sometime so I can hear your setup?

That is my pick for a setup - X-pipe and 2 Magnaflow 14815 cans - already in the UPS truck and on their way!

Hope Sheriff Bufford from local Loudoun RT 28 patrol won't mind the upgrade!

So lemme get this straight. You guys aren't using the super sprint x-pipe?

Instead, you are using the 10791 x-pipe plus all stainless 2.5 inch piping?

yes. mainly because the supersprint x-pipe will cost ~$400 just for the part, and you can get the magnaflow x-pipe for $90
