Dinan Software

The Dinan software is now listed on thier website. The best news is that the software should be available quite soon, no Vmax, and increased revs.

As best I can tell the horsepower gains are due to the removal of the charcoal filters. Also, it is only 49 state legal so it most likely excludes California.

Anyone have additional data or know what the factory torque limiting programming is?

http://www.dinanbmw.com/

M5 Performance Engine Software
Engine Tuning
Part #:
Price:
D900-51M
$999.00
Labor Hours: 0.50
Emission Status: 49 State Emission Legal
Peak Horsepower Gain: 15 @ 8100 rpm*
Peak Torque Gain: 16 lb-ft @ 3000 rpm*
Point Value: 2

Dinan Engine Software for the E60 M5 raises the factory rev-limiter by 150 rpm (8400 rpm maximum), endowing the V-10 with a broader power band and greater road speed potential in each gear. The software also removes the top speed governor, enabling the cars to attain their "natural" top speed; and the V-10s WILL pull right to red-line in top gear! The software also speeds up throttle response, providing a sportier feel and improved modulation capabilities.

The combination of Dinan's re-calibration of ignition timing and air/fuel ratios, along with a simple modification to the stock air filter elements, produces a maximum gain of 15 hp @ 8100 rpm and 15 lb-ft torque @ just 3000 rpm. The modification consists of simply removing the charcoal filter from the stock air filter element, providing improved air flow.

Dinan's software also provides re-calibration of the factory "torque limiting" programming, ensuring that maximum power is available under varying driving conditions.

The software is easily downloaded directly through the factory port by your Authorized Dinan Dealer. There's no need to remove the computer and there's no "in-line" or "piggy back" device to accomplish the modifications. As you might expect, only Dinan loads the program in the same manner BMW intended. And with Dinan's matching new-car warranty coverage, there's no need to worry about hiding the software from your dealer or removing a device before taking your car in for service or repair for fear of affecting your warranty coverage. Performance without sacrifice!

A Stage 2 version of the software has also been developed in order to take full advantage of the additional air-flow produced by the High Flow Throttle Bodies, optimizing both performance and drivability.
The new Dinan M5 Engine Software will be available at your local Authorized Dinan Dealer beginning August 10th.

That price is actually quite reasonable for Dinan.

Thanks for the update!

I still wonder why there's hardly any power increase with Dinan's software compared to other tuners out there. Just a rhetorical question really.

Wonder also if they'll be producing cold air intakes and also doing a stage III software.

Well, I think that they're just being honest. AA software is about the same. Other tuners that claim more have never been supported by dyno's. Its a shame that you have to purchase a stage 2 version if you've already spent the money on the trottle bodies. I'm also disapointed that there's no mention of the software fix for those of us who have the diff (I'm not sure I'd get it anyway and maybe most people feel that way and thats why they didn't feel the need to come out with it sooner).

Oh and BTW, I already have the charcoal fitlers out so how much more would I get with their software? I may still do it anyway though.

Reasonable is relative here. Given that removing the charcoal filters
is what's giving the 15hp gain all you get is delimited, rev increase,
and throttle response.

Edit: Actually missed this tweak on factory torque limiting thing. Maybe
that's good?

I spoke with Dinan a couple weeks ago and they said they are working on a CF air intake system that will be available in 2-3 months....

It's like their software for the 545. Stage 1 is stand alone or with K&N filter. Stage 2 is with throttle body and Stage 3 is with throttle body and intake.

AFE is also working on an intake system for the M5 and scheduled to be released some time in the fall. Wonder how the two will compare....
