I got my new (to me) M5 and drove 700 miles the first day! - Intro with PICS

After many months of lurking and asking a bunch of stupid questions I’m finally a member of the club and ready for a proper intro.

I’ve been looking to buy for about three months and finally found the “right” car. I wanted a fully optioned black\black with low miles and no wear and tear. I am in Arkansas and there were never many for sale within a day’s drive of here. I was really hoping to buy from an individual so I would know exactly what I was getting and who I was getting it from but after 3 months and no luck I started looking at the dealers.

I found a late June 06 build car with a late September in-service date that had only 3k miles and only one tiny stone chip on the hood as its sole cosmetic blemish. It is fully loaded, missing only the rear airbags which I didn’t want since I have small kids. It had an original sticker of $95.5k. It was at International Autos in Milwaukee. They were originally asking $82k. I paid $74.5k which I felt like was a couple thousand more than it was worth, but from a dealer not too bad of a price. I was tired of looking and ready to be driving so figured a few thousand at this level wouldn’t kill me. I heavily debated buying new but figured for $21k I would let someone else suffer the break-in period.

The salesman agreed to meet me in Chicago at the airport. I flew up on Saturday morning and drove it about 700 miles home that day. My wife thought I was crazy making the drive. I don’t think she understood that 700 miles of peace and quite with my new (to me) M5 was much more play than work. So after a good wash and some photos here it is.

Very nice, I fully understand the drive, I would have done the same.

Nice pictures, don't you have a tidy garage?

I am ashamed to post pictures of mine.

From one xray doc with a black M5 to another, congratulations! The only problem I have had is that despite the M5 being a fast car, it always takes me LONGER to get anywhere, since it is so much fun I always take the long way and not infrequently bypass home altogether.

I meant to mention this in my original post but I wanted to throw out a special thanks to board member erikmoeser who was kind enough to go and check out the car at the dearlership and give me an unbiased opinon before I committed to a plane ride to Chicago. It made me feel a lot better about buying a used car sight-unseen having had a fellow M5 owner give it the O.K.

Thanks Erik

Last week I did exactly the same thing. I flew into Chicago and picked up my beauty and drove the 1000 miles back to Boston. My wife also thought I was crazy and wanted me to take a mate along for the ride.

No pictures yet, but I will get around to it soon.
