Angry REAL BAD NEWS: Speedvision Update!!!

Read below, I think Speedvision as we know it will be gone by beginning of next year. The report below is not encouraging and I think much of the fears at the beginning of this year that were quelled as nothing but rumors will turn out to be true.

I'm gonna be sick....

Leave it to FOX (and Rupert Murdoch) to dumb-down a good thing. This really pisses me off.

I signed that petition a while back, but all that NASCAR money must have won.

Oh well. We can only hope someone else sees the niche that needs filling.....

Angry

Great.

Now I get to watch a bunch of hicks turn left all day.

Speedvision as we currently know it was an absolutely brilliant idea IMHO.

That it was profitable is a tribute to this.

I wonder, without prejudice, how the visionaries of the network feel about Fox's new plans for it now that they sold out...I'd feel bloody awful.

WHY? WHY? I hate Nascar, like Alpy said, I don't want to watch 45 cars turning left for 3 hours! Speedvision as we currently know it is probably the most complete chanel out there, it has shows covering about anything with an engine and it also was my first chanel I would switch to when turning on the TV. This is sad, very sad!

Greg knows a little about this. Does this mean the end to F1 every other Sunday? We feared this might happen.

Angry Damn, damn, damn

This really does suck. Well, I put in satellite just to get speed vision because my cable doesn't carry it. I'll just save money by canceling my satellite service.

>). "This is a precursor to what will become the NASCAR Channel, for all intents and purposes." <

That says it all.

DAMN! DAMN! DAMN!

I love this:

Quote:
"We don't think it can be just NASCAR 24 hours a day out of the gate," Brooks says. "It will have some other racing elements. That's probably the right mix to get us started."
I take this to mean it is only a matter of time before it IS 100% NASCAR.

There may be valid business reasons for this move, given NASCAR's inexplicable draw in the U.S. - but why buy a network with a carefully cultivated audience and then screw them? If they were going to change everything, why didn't they just start a new network? There are already zillions of "fox sports" channels...

Bright Side!

I hate to be the eternal optomist but something to consider. The programing speedvision has was successful. The only thing we can hope is someone will create another network around the programing that made speedvision successful.

Can you people south of the border can get our national sports channel called TSN? They have full formula 1 and CART coverage for the whole season

No wonder speedvision removed their bulletin board. A lot of upset people were leaving nasty messages on the fact the F1 racing might not be seen again under new mangement. I agree with you guys that watching NASCAR is boring as hell. I'd rather watch synchronized swimming. You guys should know why they are doing it. Non of those NASCAR drivers could ever make in F1 or Lemans series so they have to make up for it by brain-washing us on NASCAR racing. There goes our ability to know what's happening in the world of motorsports. They can now call it the World of NASCAR (or as some of us would say: bumper cars).

I sent this to Speedvision about 5 minutes ago- this sucks:

I was EXTREMELY dissapointed to read that Speedvision will be changing its programming to be completely NASCAR oriented.
Fox sure was the right company to sell out to. They already have really high quality programming (Real Police Chases IV). Speedvision is all about different kinds of racing. It is there to expose people to different kinds of racing, just as the commentators say in the commercial. Here in the US, Speedvision is the only readily available source for real racing- trans-am, f1, lemans, alms, rolex, superbikes, rally, even stupid powerboats. To take all of that away and replace it with one kind of racing is not smart. The American people already think that NASCAR is the only kind of racing out there. Jim Liberatore and all the other sell-outs are obviously not car enthusiasts. Well, I guess they should just give them more of what they like. It's not like you can see a f3000, f1, alms, etc. race EVERY weekend like you can with stock cars. I feel bad for all those great ex-drivers who have commentated so passionately for Speedvision and all those who really cared about racing- Thanks go to all of you guys. Going around in a circle 250 times is not racing, but why would Fox care about that? Guess it's time to get a satellite dish so I can get British TV.

PS- Please send this to Jimbo-Billy-Bob (or whatever) and also to all those at Speedvision who are passionate about racing.

This really is BAD news. Speedvision is the main reason I bought the satellite set up. Our only hope is that the impact to the service providers (like Direct TV) of losing subscribers might generate enough demand to get a new cable company to cover road course racing. We need more F1 fans in the US! As much as most of us dislike circle racing, NASCAR is BIG business. It is sad, but money talks.
