Sultan's car collection

Gee, I thought I owned a bunch of a cars. I've got 23 BMW's, 12 Audi's, 14 porsches, 13 Mercedes, and a couple of Ferraris. However, all of my cars are in 1/87 scale to go with my Marklin HO model trains!!!

I wonder would it be possible to set all the car alarms off at the same time - we could probably all hear them

Very interesting thread. There are still lots of people out there that have no clue about the sultan (and his Brother Prince Jefri) passion for cars. I don't think there is another car collector like the two brothers.

If you recall Formula 1 when a great schumacher at the final race bumped a young villenue in the hope the championship might be settled by it? (Jerez) wll both those F1 cars ended up with Prince Jefri for his collection. It was reported the tyre marks of the ferrari was still on the Wiliams car. Nice one and both cars were in some glass enclosure.

Talking about BMW, the M5's were sold in Brunei. But the car came with a MANUAL box and the royal family were not happy to use it. So they snapped up the whole lot of M5's (I can't remember if it was 9 units or something) and then distributed it out to family members and friends. Same thing with the 850's. P.Jefri passed a few to his close golfing buddies. BMW's are considered to be below his royal highness class to us. But the 750il's were bought up for the sultan's personal police. All tinted black.

Many of the M5's bought there never survived cause they were written off in nasty accidents. But a testament to the M5, all walked away alive... well at least the ones I saw smashed at the BMW dealer at the time. One car that survived was a white Aplinweiss M5 bought in 1991 by an enthusiast. It had sunroof, climate AC, full leather, large rear rims, electric blinds, side blinds and a host of nice features. The owner also fitted cruise control by the dealer (retro fitted) and they got a german tech person to help assist in it. The car today is still running but with another owner who has taken it out of Brunei. Its the ONLY one running in malaysia now with side marker lights as found in USA. Pickie of the car attached for you. its in KL I believe. Only has about 40,000km on the clock.

The 850i that came also got snapped up by royalty. Most were given to family and friends. And boy when the electronics acted up, the cars were stuck collecting dust cause at the time, the BMW dealer was not up to date with the equipment needed to diagnose and fix. I think the ecu was one of the main problems. So much for multiplexing.

I know way back in the 80's the heir to the throne had an exact replica A-team (tv series) van. That was really cool. He was too young to drive but used to go in it to school etc chauffered obviously. Also got a replica Knight rider car.

But I do recall, some of the old bentleys and RR cars died there. They were broken up for part for the newer ones. And rest assured, all the sultan cars will remain there. I don't think he will sell it as its way below class to sell his cars to another. So for those hoping to get a bargain when they are sold... its going to be a long long wait. Meantime, I am off to

cheers.

At one stage he offered to buy along with his brother all 100 McLaren F1's. 64 road cars including longtails and the rest were track cars. There is also a list of specials built for him by Aston Martin and during the early 1990's he kept Bentley and RR in business. There is a four door Testarossa and numerous shootingbrake versions of Am's and Bentleys. Also a number of six wheel Range Rovers and some custom Lamborghini's. Shame that many of these have now been sold and his brother is in exile having blown in excess of US $ 8 billion on nothing. Bet his plane collection is pretty good and his hotel portfolio too!
