Just building on that - are we looking at the following?

1979-1985 Saphireblau Metallic BASF colorcode ??
Did anybody know what is the BASF or BMW color code of Sapphireblau Metallic? I'm planning to re-paint my E12 B7S soon, but I really don't want to order the paints from ALPINA because it's too expensive....

I believe Saphirblau as used on the E12 B7 is BMW colorcode #149.

However your B7S is Dunkelsaphirblau which I believe is the first batch of Alpina-specific colors.

Thanks for your clarification, Kees.
But what is the actual color code of the Dunkelsaphirblau?
Is it BASF86-5489?

There seem to be several versions of Dunkelsaphirblau. My guess is BASF 86-5489 is the E28/E30 version of Dunkelsaphirblau which isn't the same as the one on your B7S.

However, I'm NOT in Japan, even the car was bought from Japan...
In my passed experience, they never cared about the vintage car they sold 20 years before. Really made me depressed.
What can I anticipate for them?

ALPINA are worthless for things like this.

I takes me ages to get a damn Deko-Set for a B10 and everybody you speak to gives you a different story which also doesn't align with the manuals they supply. I really don't understand this poor level of service. Its like dealing with italian manufacturers or something, they are only 640km from my home and still it takes 7000 weeks for their packages to reach me.

However, about the paint, you should look up a good paintshop.

Manufacturers of any car are not the ones to talk to about paintcodes. Especially on very old cars. Talk to the people that are going to paint the car.

Don't despair. I contacted Standox, who provided the paint to Alpina, a couple of years ago for the code. They gave me two formulas for Dunkelsaphirblau-met., code #5014. The first uses a paint system "Standohyd Basecoat" and is for one US quart. Here are the tint codes and amounts, WB372/spezialschwarz 224.5, WB390/silber 270.6, WB394/silber fein 117.0, WB388/azurblau 146.3, WB356/scharlach 87.7, WB357/ozeanblau 87.7, WB355/violett 36.5 all total a cumulative mass of 970.3. The second uses a paint system of "basislack" and is for one US gallon, MB590/silber 767.3, MB585/kolbaltblau 2115.6, MB859/blau 197.2, MB571/teifschwarz 249.5, MB574/ocker 124.2, MB856/scharlach 86.7 all total a cumulative mass of 3540.4 I believe my paint man went with the first formula and it it a stunning color.
