My BT's service history

Just been translating my service history (using the BT parts list to help).

In the last 90,000 kms it's had at least 3 set of front discs!

At 94,000 kms(4 years old) it had a new block and pistons as well as new turbos, a cylinder head gasket and a camshaft.

New clutch at 97,000 kms

New exhaust manifold at 130,000 kms

New catalytic converter at 170,000 kms

At 180,000 kms it had a complete engine rebuild (including engine block, cylinder head, camshaft, basically everything: a 27,000 Euro bill!)

At 230,000 kms it had two new exhaust manifolds, a new cylinder head gasket, a new camshaft, 12 rocker arms? and one new (exhaust) valve - wonder what happened there?

So it's had 3 camshafts, 3 sets of exhaust manifolds, 4 sets of brake discs and it's on its third set of turbos.

Can't see any evidence of shock absorbers being replaced yet... and only one clutch replacement..

Well, the block and manifolds are replacement items on the BiTurbo...
As far as I know that's only the case for cars that are consistently driven with full turbo pressure - getting a lot of heatsoak. Only really possible if it lives on the autobahn.

The rocker arms are a standard failure point on the 3.5 liter engines. Typically they break in half but it's rare for them to cause a lot of secondary damage.

Nice that you have the full service history though. The poor girl's seen a lot of action.

Sh.....t well that just put me off wanting a BT then! Sounds like a lot of money just to keep going, also sounds like they are not that well engineered if you need major work on it after 50k kms ....

Bloomin 'eck - that's some monstrous maintenance - the previous owner must have loved it to consider a €27,000 bill! If mine goes that way, it will be wearing a small block Chevy LS7......

He must have got through a few rolls of toilet paper too.....

Dave.

Alpina charged 32000,- DM (16000,-Euro) for rebuilding my engine --->thatīs half of your bill and they changed the whole engine.
maybe itīs an old bill with DM on it ....if not they should have given you a spare engine

Good point - perhaps it was DM. It was in 2000 so perhaps that's pre-Euro? I'll check when I get home. It's still a big bill!!
