Post What ever happened to...?

I just dig up my old library and came upon some interesting 90's engine technologies that I have never heard of again:

1. Cetoni Turmat
Was it some kind of a hybrid Supercharger system? Last time it was used was in a TechArt Porsche 993. Not really sure what the benefits are compared 2 regular kompressor though.

2. High-compression turbo
Loted once used this in 993 C2. It punched out 450ps (standard 270ps) with turbo but using the same 11.4:1 compression ratio.

The first one is interesting since many Euro tuners today prefer supercharging, which has been used for decades in US automobiles.

The latter one should be very beneficial for city driving and engine flexibility curve because there is virtually no power drop before the turbo spools up.

Any comment?

Cheers,
Taffy

Hey

This is a good one.
This sytem is a combonation of turbo and kompressor and was first used bu Cetonio in an M3 3.0 ( euro) and gave you 450 very fit HP. The car was tested by Sport Auto and gave very impresssive performance. Actually the best I have seen on this engine.
0-62 4,6 sec
0-125 14,5 sec
topspeed 310 kph depending on gearing. The car had actually 10 gears, high and low on every gear based on standard gear box.
This car really moves but they had problems on reliability.
I actually had a talk with one of the inventor of this sytem and almost bought the prototuype car.
I think that due to some financial problems the system was bought by a bigger tuning company ( cant remember the name) and offered to other brands also.

Anyway the system is the only solution that really have given the M engines some real extra power. If only it was more reliable ...

Was it Lotec or Albrecht? Both offered a wide range of kompressor kits.

Lancia used a supercharger and a turbocharger on their Group B Delta S4 rally car (400 bhp from a 1.8 litre engine!)
