E28 B9 for sale in USA

I am thinking about selling my B9 (#436 of 500). It is a show quality car, is excellent in all respects, and is in my opinion the best E28 B9 I have seen. It was featured in 5/03 Bimmer magazine. Asking 30k. Serious inquiries to tljones9111@aol.com

And to think I almost bought that car from Paul for $13,500! I do hope you get all the money for your car. Keep us posted, please. IMO, there is a very small audience willing to pay over $20k for an e28, although I do think they (euro tuner cars) are worth the asking price.

Chris Provo got >30k for his 1979 immaculate low mile B6 on ebay, so more power to ya. It makes my euro M5 and Alpina B9 clone worth all the more.

Keep us posted on how you do.

Cheers,
Ron

SO this is the car that was in the roundel last month? The black one? I tried to get that one as well, I guess there was a long list of us for that car. I called the day I got my roundel and it was sold.

No, the car you are selling now. I was in line to buy it from Paul La Due for $13,500. Paul had told me to come a look at it, but there was a deposit on it and he hadn't heard from the guy (a dentist from New Jersey) for a month. I begged him to sell it to me and he promised he would if the guy flaked. A week later the guy re-surfaced.

Well the guy owned the car for a week and ended up selling it to Tim in New Jersey. You have done a remarkable job restoring the car and it looks as it should and is one of very few B9s in the country and the list gets even smaller when you are looking for a nice one! You truly have a specimen there!!!!

The other car I was talking about belonged to Chris Provo and was a perfect B6 and it sold on ebay last August(it was red w/ alpina interior and had 56k kilometers).

My personal car was in Roundel in October 2005 (I think) and both my euro M5 and Alpina B9 clone were in the February 2006 Bimmer Magazine.

I do recall the B9 in Roundel last month-that guy really cheap sold his car! Pity!!! He didn't have the correct interior though and if I recall correctly, the Alpina vin and production numbers weren't making sense.

All the best to you and I hope to see you get what you are asking for the car!

Cheers,
Ron

Thanks for the comments

Ron, I enjoyed seeing your cars in print. The story on this car is fairly simple. I saw the car when Paul owned it and loved it. I bought it sight unseen when it came up for sale by the guy in NJ. It was sold as in outstanding condition and fully sorted. It was neither. I decided to buy the car anyway because it had a great deal of potential. After 5months of work by myself, the shop I use, and a ton of cash, the car is fully sorted and is excellent in all respects. Those of you who have done this kind of resto know how much it costs to do it right. I recently purchased an Alpina ti in the Netherlands and have to make space. I am going to put another car up for sale as well. We will see how it goes. BTW, I liked the look of Provo's B6 and spoke with my friend Paul Cain and Chris about the car. Went a bit high for a B6, but that's good for us all. Thanks, Tim Jones

To clarify. I bought the car from Tim in NJ who bought it from the dentist (more than one Tim here). If anyone want's to post pics of the car let me know and I will send you a pic file. I don't have any idea how to do that. Tim J.

Great story Tim! Well we do have some friends in common. I was at Larry Walker's house for dinner while we were at the Historics at Monterey along with Paul and Chris and our other pal Tom Rakestraw. Paul had mentioned to me that Larry and his wife requested Kimberly and my presence for a Wine-B-Que. We had a blast, Larry has a beautiful home and spares no expense hosting a party.

Larry's driveway was the epitome of highly restored BMWs! Paul's 3.8csi, Tom's 3.0 csl, Chris's 3.0 csl, Larry's perfect 2002, and the bastard child (4dr) my M5! Quite a sight. Funny that Chris never mentioned that he was selling the car and when I got back from my trip and saw the car it had been on ebay the whole time we were in Monterey! I was also chasing that car at the same time Chris was, but he snagged it quick! We did have a conversation about that too.

Paul and I actually went to high school together and I spend every Saturday morning with he and Tom down at the local car show at Starbucks.

I was also suprised at the amount of money Chris got for the B6, but yes it is all good for the rest of us.

You were right about the condition of the car and I think you probably received it in better condition than I would have. It needed paint and some serious sorting. Paul let me drive it and the car was let's say, less than perfect and in retrospect even though I was upset about seeing the car go, I am quite happy that I found the M5. I still longed for the Alpina though so that's why I created my own.

I can't believe you found an Alpina Ti! Jeez, I thought B9s were rare!!! Anyway, I hope you sell your babies in time for your new arrival.

Best to you, and I will tell Paul you said hi. He is on his way back from Germany tomorrow.

Cheers,
Ron
