Post ALPINA meeting 2001

ALPINA meeting 2001

Our meeting this year takes place at the Nürburgring at the same time as the 29. AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix is held!
The AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix is this year being held for the 29th time and thus has a historical value for the Nürburgring. This event begins on Friday August 10th 2001 and ends on Sunday August 12th 2001.
During the three days where the Grand Prix is held there will be something interesting for all automotive enthusiasts. You will see cars which you otherwise would never see - from classic oldtimers up to the latest modern cars. The most different manufacturers are represented like e.g. Porsche, Aston-Martin, Jaguar, Ferrari, Lotus, BMW, Mercedes and many more. One could spend three days there without problems because a very comprehensive program is offered. There will be parallel events on the Grand Prix circuit, on the Nordschleife, in the paddocks and elsewhere on the Nürburgring.
The main event for us is naturally the actual ALPINA meeting on Saturday August 11th 2001
Dedicated display parking areas are reserved for each car club, and thus of course also for our ALPINAs. These areas are secured so that visitors can see but not touch the cars. There is a parking fee in the amount of DM 17 DM for each ALPINA vehicle. You don't have to be a member of the ALPINA-Gemeinschaft to attend this event.
We kindly ask you to transfer the DM 17 to our bank account before May 31st 2001. The Nürburgring management needs to know the number of vehicles for parking lot reservation and organization, and because of this a parking lot reservation after May 31st 2001 is unfortunately not possible (Nürburgring management policy). People who only wants to stop by and look at the event are of course also very welcome.
The reserved parking areas can be accessed from Friday August 10th 2001, and everyone in the car receives a car club bonuscard which will give you a significant discount on the main event. A weekend card incl. access to the paddocks will be around DM 50 after rebate. This covers all arrangements during the weekend. Normally you have to pay DM 65 for Saturday only. Each person also receives a reduction coupon for attendance of the Nürburgring Experience World and museum.
As an extra bonus the car clubs are going to choose 3 cars from each club to participate in a driving event on the legendary Nordschleife on Saturday from approx. 19:00. Otherwise the Nordschleife will be opened for all the car clubs attending the event during the three days. The Nordschleife track fee is included in the weekend ticket price for the car clubs! It is normally DM 20 per lap - man am I going to perfect my Nürburgring driving skills that weekend .
For those who don't want to drive their precious ALPINA on the track, we recommend taking a trip with the Ring Taxi - a BMW M5 with 400PS driven by a professional race driver.
There is also an indoor and an outdoor go-kart track at the track.

The program for the 29. AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix begins Friday August 10th at 9:30 and ends Sunday August 12th at 18:00.

Friday August 10th 9:30 - 18:00:
Training of the different classes on the Grand Prix Circuit as e.g.:
- Historical touring cars
- Racecars from the 50's
- Group C/Group 5
- International Supersports Cup
- Formula 1 from 1974-1985
- Prototype trophy
- FIA-cup for historical GT cars
and a few more...
The Nordschleife is free for car clubs attending the event.

Saturday August 11th 8:30-18:00:
Grand Prix Circuit: races in the different classes
Nordschleife: free for car clubs attending the event.

Sunday August 12th 8:30-18:00:
Grand Prix Circuit: races in the different classes
Nordschleife: free for car clubs attending the event.

Among other events is also a large used car market near the paddocks. Here you will find many different cars for sale.

For us ALPINA drivers one of the highlights of the annual meetings is meeting all the other ALPINA drivers and seeing all the different ALPINAs represented. Every year we see many new vehicles and meet many people we have never seen before. This event will also be a great opportunity to meet people from other car clubs as for instance the BMW Typenclub International which have their parking area very close to ours.
We are of course looking forward to seeing all the familiar faces again, but we would be especially delighted to see many new faces - in particular from other countries. We hope to break the 100 cars barrier this year. At our meeting last year we had 70 ALPINAs, so it should definitely be possible.
And it will be the first time that the visitors of the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix will see ALPINA cars at the event, which is rather unique.

Driving directions and hotel recommendations will be published in the next newsletter of the ALPINA-Gemeinschaft (issue 2/2001).

For further information, please contact the ALPINA-Gemeinschaft through Michael Smedegaard at +49 173-5152366 (email: michael@mds.com ) or Dirk Jahr at +49 2652-2390 (email: djahr@t-online.de ).

Hope to see you all at the Nürburgring!

Michael

I'll see if I can get over, just seeing that many Alpinas would be worth it, plus to put some faces to the names I talk to would be good

Yes it could be great fun meeting some of the people here on the board! And this event will without a doubt be the most important ALPINA event worldwide in 2001.

I have just updated the original post at the bottom of this page! I will post the final schedule when it is ready, but this is pretty much it. There will be some food and beverage arranged too, and that is something we are planning at the moment. We will most likely arrange that together with the BMW Typenclub. They are thrilled that we will attend the event! They will probably be in our area a lot... Expect to see thousands of cars from the different car clubs at this event!

Do you have any contacts with the UK clubs? who no doubt have a contingency of Apina owners amidst their ranks.

No I don't. Which club would you suggest that I contact? Do you know anyone specific I should contact?

I do have several contacts, I'll dig them out and give you a shout, and perhaps e-mail them direct.
