Did any body in the UK not get there new alpina through Sytner. They are the GB headquarter and seem to have 15-20 new and second hand alpinas at any one time. They are begining to become a common site on the streets of Nottingham. Is any other dealer like this, or is ever second hand alpina first put on sale in Nottingham?
Sytner actually performs most if not all the work for Alpina on the right hand drive cars. In Buchloe only left hand drive cars are produced. Frank Sytner and Burky - erhhmm sorry - Burkhard Bovensiepen goes way back in the early Alpina days. This probably explains why all UK Alpinas seem to go through Sytners - simply because they know so much about the cars (heck if they made'em they ought to know).
In fact, as far as I am aware, sytner's built the first E30 C1 2.3, and the C2 2.5, using components sent over from Buchloe, even before Alpina themselves. So they are definatley held in high regard.

Sytner import all the uk Alpinas, so on the registration documents it says the car was imported. This means they come in to the uk on German number plates.
Sytner even have their "own" Alpinas. For example the B2,5 and B2,8. But these cars have standard engines.
It´s a lot of fun to check out the used cars at Sytner´s homepage. They have so many special orders with incredible colours and interiors. Sytner himself seems to prefer a black car with red leather interior...

Sytners took over from Tom Walkinshaw (TWR) as the main agents for Alpina in the UK way back in the early 80's just as the E30 appeared, and yes you're right they did import all the UK Alpinas at that time as a complete car, however, they also started to market their own items which were modified bmw's, sorted on their own premises. The first E30 C1 2.3/5, were built in the UK before Buchloe did it, the engines and gearboxes (plus any other item ordered) were shipped over from Germany and installed at Sytners. And these carried a plaque stating what they were, but not showing a production line number, just a run number. These were run for a ltd amount of time before being succeded by another. They also built in the same way a number of modified 528's (E28) which had the Alpina 3.5 unit in.
TWR Alpinas weremodified over here using imported parts from Buchloe, it is therefore quite difficult to verify an early car as genuine, if it does not have the history to back it up
You can't do it now though, they are all imported as complete items.
