Bavaria?

Does anyone here know what it means if there comes a bavaria after the name of a BMW?
I have the possibility to buy a 520 Bavaria.

Hi,

Iīm not sure but I think it was a small German tuning company in the early 80's.

Regards, MTY.

Hi

Its NOT a Tuning company, if so it must be completly unknown.

520 probably just an stock 520 with a BAVARIA plate on it.

To my knowledge that name was used in the US on the BMW, but was stopped by the factory any years ago.

I was offered a 1984 323i Bavaria 2 door, and it had been supplied with all the original factory fit sport options, i.e LSD, Leather Recaros, Sports G/Box (dog leg 1st), bilstein suspension, front and rear spoilers, with a Bavaria badge opposite the 323i item, plus the usual options, (apparently it was based on the SE at the time). It was not an aftermarket/dealer build but a factory built car. I'd like to know what the Bavaria part is.

Erik,

I said Bavaria WAS a small tuning company. I donīt think it exists nowadays.

There used to be a red ( almost orange )323i e-21 in my neighbourhood with the famous Bavaria badge ( a black piece of plastic with the BAVARIA inscription on it ). IT WASNīT a US car because it had European bumpers and km/h scale instead of mph.

After all, it is probably to be just a badge.

With best regards, Mikel.

I could off course have been a small comapny in the US modifying BMW but in has never been in Europe. I have seen in the 80`s some Bimmers with this plate on it but it did not mean anything.
I friend had a old 3,0 si with bavaria but was 100 % stock.
BTW a fantastic car for its time.
0-100 in 7,9 sec was not to bad for a big limo in 1972.

Hi folks
Here is my take on this since I have lived the better part of 15 years in Germany. I have seen this Bavaria tag that you mentioned and also owned a 315 Bavaria here in Germany. From what I gathered since BMW's were made in Munchen (Munich) which is in Baveria (Bayern). It was just a name thing that was catchy for advertisment. This 315 was nothing special. Heck I have even seen these tags on Mercedes . For a lot of People here in Germany it is a pride thing to be from Baveria and they like to show it.

I have just come across this small explanation on www.bmwworld.com/models/bavaria.htm

'The Bavaria nameplate was used to connect the car with its German origins, putting BMW alongside Mercedes in the luxury, performance market. It worked ... beautifully.'

That takes care of the US. I assume some were diverted to the uk (& European dealers) in a RH drive set up.
Hope this is of use.
