      Great test and a overwhelming victory for BMW Alpina.

      Re: Autozeitung: Alpina B5 vs CLS 55

      I'm afraid I'm not sure I have complete confidence in their test data - the figures for the CLS55 are EXACTLY the same as for their earlier comparison test of the CLS55 vs. M5. I'm sorry, but no two tests can reasonably get EXACTLY the same results - weather, temperature, human error simply dictate that some of the numbers may be the same, but not all exactly the same on 2 different occasions.

      Therefore, they presumably didn't record the CLS data on the same day and in the same conditions as the B5 - which is a real pain, because otherwise we would have had a useful basis for comparison of the B5 and M5, based on the earlier test...

      Auto zeitung;

      B7 0-60=2.4
      0-100=4.6
      0-160=9.5

      B5 0-60=2.6
      0-100=4.7
      0-160=9.6

      Is the traction in the B5 really so bad that it can not be faster then the 300kg heavier B7?

      I know - it's really odd, isn't it - I mean, the extra weight and bigger wheels could aid initial traction, but once the tyres are fully keyed in, the weight should tell, then the lower CdA at higher speeds - very odd that the 100-160 increment above is identical...

      To be honest, I just don't believe those numbers. Maybe the weather conditions were very different for the 2 tests...?
