I am seeing lots of high asking prices, but are there cars turning over at 70-80,000 euros for E24 coupes and E12 saloons?

It looks like the prices are getting higher and higher,,

on an English Classic car TV show/program... it was told that classic cars ,,and young timers,, + racing cars their value will hold forever ,, AND,, if something through the years ,,their value will increase ,, so owners can drive their dream car for years without loosing anything in the cars value ((maintenance and these things of course plays a major rule)) and if the car have a special history
like VERY low km/miles and the owner was some kind of a well known person the selling price sometimes goes ludicrous ,, just have a look on Janis Joplin 356 Porsche,,,,,,,,, that was something

in my opinion, the cars listed at 70,000, either in dollar or euros are not really moving. You can see that the same cars stay for sale on mobile.de for many months.
The real selling price can be seen either on real sales on Ebay, Alpina-CSI....

It is a very limited market. An Alpina does not have the aura of a Ferrari, Lambo, Aston Martin....In fact, I would say that even for Alpina enthousiasts, the older cars are more sought that the newer models.

What is the profile of an older Alpina buyer? I would suspect someone who was 25-35 in the 70-80, when Alpina was new and making it big. Now these people have either already got their dream car and may in fact be closer to 'downsize' and sell, or the other have forgotten about their dream.
Many newer cars are more powerful, faster, quicker....easier to use so unless people have a special taste for the older ones, they may got for M3, M5, R8....

Will the prices go up or down in the future? On one hand, there are not that many cars available....the ones that are not in top shape may not find buyers and stay at dealers, rusting beyond repair. the lack of parts is not helping..... on the other, the number of people interested in the cars and who have the money to keep them on the road is limited also....so I would suspect that the prices will stay reasonable. A bit more than BMW, but I dont see ALpina prices going much over the 45-50,000

then I stand corrected .....and happy to be. 70,000 euros? good sale...i hope that the dealer does find a buyer...sooner or later.

i totally understand about the newer Aston Martin. most likely better car for handling, driving, no worry about rust, part.....and in my opinion, a number of current Alpina cars owners might sell their precious vehicle, after having had their fun with it for 10 or 20 years and settle for something easier to handle, like you did.

will the prices stay that high? I am not sure.....then again, not that many of these older cars. More than Bugatti Royale but still, not that many, a few hundreds in each series.

If you guys have a CLOSE look at some E21 B6.... E12 B7,, E28 B7
and E31 B12 E36 B8 these cars are going IMO totally Ludicrous in asking price,,, some of them are well worth but some of the prices on these cars is unreal,,, but that is my opinion,,

it is lovely to see that young-timers and classic cars are increasing their value,, times WILL BE DIFFERENT in the next years,, so many electric cars will be around ,, and thats ok,, but for a petrolhead to own a great car that could and can perform well and is even today really fast is something that only a car enthusiastic can explain.

great!

nice car....and sometimes, I really like to be wrong.

$ 50,000 USA, plus $ 10,000 to get the piersburg injection redone, plus shipping....surely a few taxes....

nice car though, love the white with large blue and green stripes.

Thank you for posting.

Kees: you have now a few pics to add for this car.

Yes, I remember thinking that at first, too. The price through Alpina/Pierburg to rebuild the units is not $10k.

If you look at how it's worded though, it says "ship the car to Alpina and get it working for $10k", so maybe that was a rough ballpark from Buchloe to get it rebuilt and operable if you shipped them the non-running car.

Hello, Mike! When I bought my Alpina, first I wanted to take her in Buchloe. They offered me to replace my Pierburg to the electronic injection. That stopped me. From my point of view, once losing authenticity. Consequently, value. When I was engaged my car, I tried to keep 100% of the original. I understand that this replacement is performed by the manufacturer. However, this is not the same as it was at first ... ;)

$ 120 K? once again I would be very surprised. 5 days to go and it is at $ 25600. still a long way to go, and it is such a beautiful car. absolutely perfect in every part.....looking forward to see the final result!
