Re: alpina roll call

Hi Alpinaal,

welcome to the board. Nice car you have there. What's your experience with those breaks of yours ? How did you manage to fit discs with 346 mm under the 17" rims ? I've got 333 mm disks on my B8 and I hardly have space left.

Cheers, Alex

Re: alpina roll call

Hi Alex

Cheers for the comments, You have my fav Alpina, I would love a B8, whats it like to drive, colours etc

My brakes are in one word AWESOME, there not 346mm thats a type error, there actually 343mm, not sure how they got them to fit mate, They were ordered direct from Tarox for my car by CA-Automotive, they just asked what car and what wheels and 4 weeks later they sent them direct to my door, I think that the spacing between the discs and the inside of the caliper is very small (ie were the disk goes through the caliper) allowing for a bigger disc. In terms of stopping power they scrub off speed very very quickly..

The discs that you have on the B8 are they the standard alpina ones ???? cause from memory they have quite a beefy caliper dont they...

If you want me to take some photos of the brakes and spacings etc let me know ok

Re: alpina roll call

Hey Alex

Me again, just looked at the pics of your car thats really nice mate, youve got the AC brakes (very nice) but the wheels you have look different to mine, theres a lip between the spokes so dont know if that makes a difference ???
Quick question I keep seeing Alpinas with the front splitter like yours with the Alpina badge and area around it raised, were can you get them from or are they OE only ??

My car is exactly how it came from Alpina with the exception of the suspension and breaks (there is a long thread here in the board on those issues, just sort them by views and it should be one of the first ones in the list). The original breaks did a good job on the first hard breaking but after that they get rough. Considering the speeds here on the Autobahn, I felt better with the ACS breaks with pads from the E32 750.

Alpina changed the rims on the E36 from the ones I have to the softline. My car is #12 of the B8, build in 1995 so I still have the old one. They also changed the front spoiler somewhere down the path. I think the newer one has slightly more road clearing compared to mine.

To answer you question, the B8 is just the best car I ever owned and after driving it since 1995, I haven't found anything else that made me want to sell mine. I guess if the new 3 series comes out as M3 with a V8 I might just think about getting a second car but I don't think I'll ever sell the B8.

Cheers, Alex

These are the early type:

And these are the later type:

As you can see the later wheels are more open with thinner and longer spokes. Also the air nipple moved into the center of the wheel behind the center cover - with one of the spokes hollow.

Re: alpina roll call

Just bought B10 3.2 Touring #005 (RHD). A great practical grocery and DIY load-hauler.
