Alpina based on BMW 02

Does anyone have any information on Alpinas based on the old BMW 02 ? As far as I can remember, my father used to drive a BMW Alpina 1602 back when I was born. It was the 02 with the round tail lights, but I don't even know the BMW internal code for that model (E0x ???). I could only find infos on Alpinas dating back to the E21.

Any infos out there ? Does anyone still own a car like that ? The car my father drove actually had its engine burn out after a fuel hose came off and it was equiped with a prototype 2.0 liter engine from a small BMW shop near Munich who got these engines straight from the BMW development teams.

Cheers, Alex

The 2002 is the E10 modelrange and the other 02 cars are the E114 modelrange.

You can find some information on the early Alpina cars here.

if you can get a back issue of the magazine Total BMW (UK mag only I believe, but you can try) in their magazine Sept 01, they did a profile on Alpina, and included was a superb 2002 ti modded by Alpina, and one owner, in Orange-Stunning, and original. I don't have a scanner, but if I can get one sorted I'll try and get a copy of it to you.

Thanks a lot. If you can't find a scanner, maybe you could just fax me a copy.

I have had one, with the A2s (160 Hp)engine, the "s" stand for " forged" pistones and gave app 10 Hp more than the normal A2 engine.( 150 Hp)

The engine was based on the 2 ltr carburator engine, ( Weber or Solex) mine had WEBER 45 DCOE.
The engine noice on full throttle was amazing
I did a sub 5 hour run from Munchen to Hamburg in that car

The Injection version called A4 and A4s had a very special "kugelfisher einzel drossel" injection system.
I think the Hp number on those engine was 160-170 Hp.

Thats all I have in my head for the moment

Did yours have the round tail lights ? I'll give Alpina a call next week to see if they have any records on the cars they sold. Since my father had bought his first hand, they might still have it on file.

Cheers, Alex
